WAYNE — A pair of highly experienced coaches have been appointed by the Board of Education to lead athletics programs at Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley high schools.

Ryan Bayley will assume the job at Wayne Hills, and Jason Carcich at Wayne Valley.

They were natural fits for the positions, said schools Superintendent Mark Toback, who noted that the longtime coaches served as athletics coordinators at the high schools for the past two years. In those roles, he said, they learned a lot from David Drozjock, who is retiring as the athletics director at both schools on Sept. 1.

Bayley and Carcich will each be paid a prorated salary of $148,847 to take on his respective position, which is technically referred to as the assistant principal of athletics, physical education and student activities.

Bayley, 40, most recently taught special education at George Washington Middle School.

The veteran teacher has also coached student-athletes in five sports: boys soccer, golf and boys lacrosse at Wayne Hills; and girls basketball and ice hockey at Wayne Valley.

Carcich, 52, taught physical education at Theunis Dey School, George Washington and, most recently, Wayne Valley.

He has also coached volleyball teams at Wayne Valley — boys and girls — for 30 years, racking up nearly 850 victories, three state championships and 17 Passaic County titles.

Carcich was among 19 coaches to be inducted into the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame at an awards ceremony in January at Pines Manor, a banquet hall in Edison.

According to Niche.com , which releases annual lists of top public schools, Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley rank within the top 25 of all high school athletics programs in New Jersey.
