Sinkhole and drainage pipe repairs close lanes on I-287 and Route 202

An emergency sinkhole repair in Montville is causing the left lane and shoulder of I-287 northbound and southbound, and the right lane on Route 202 southbound to be closed on Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m., said the state Department of Transportation traffic advisory.

NJ DOT said a construction barrier is needed that will close the shoulder while workers repair an emergency drainage pipe on the I-287 median.

The left lane is scheduled to reopen later tonight, officials said.

Exit 47 for Route 202/Montville/Lincoln Park in both directions of I-287 will remain open, said the NJ DOT.

One lane on Route 202 southbound under I-187 will be maintained while crews evaluate the condition of the drainage pipe and determine the extent of repairs.
