    Live updates: Bergen Catholic faces Massillon Washington in key interstate game

    Bergen Catholic got back on track Friday night with a 35-21 road win against Massillon Washington in Ohio .

    Massillon (2-0) was ranked No. 15 in the latest USA TODAY Super 25, while Bergen Catholic (0-1) was ranked No. 25 after last week's loss to IMG Academy . The Crusaders started the year ranked No. 1 in the New Jersey Super 25 .

    Bergen Catholic avoided starting 0-2 for the first time since 2004, when it started the season with losses to Ridgewood and Don Bosco. The Crusaders went on to win the state title that season.

    Friday's result snapped an 18-game winning streak for Massillon.

    Here were the key plays.

    Fourth quarter

    The teams exchanged punts twice after the Bergen Catholic touchdown, and the Crusaders forced a turnover on downs with a minute left to seal the win.

    Bergen Catholic fumbled into the end zone and offensive lineman Mikey McMahon recovered the ball to give the Crusaders the largest lead of the game for either team. Bergen Catholic 35, Massillon 21

    Third quarter

    After Bergen Catholic forced a three-and-out, the Crusaders drove into Massillon territory and concluded the quarter in the red zone.

    Bergen Catholic retook the lead with a 2-yard touchdown run by Najee Calhoun. An interception by Ethan Cohall set up the Crusaders in the red zone. Bergen Catholic 28, Massillon 21

    With rain falling harder than it has all night, the teams traded three-and-outs to start the second half.

    Second quarter

    With 2:58 left in the half, Daylan Pringle of Massillon intercepted a pass at the Tigers' own 14-yard line.

    Massillon tied up the game on a pick-six by Tra’Yon Williams with 6:00 left in the quarter. Bergen Catholic 21, Massillon 21

    The Crusaders took the lead for the first time on a 45-yard touchdown run by Najee Calhoun. Bergen Catholic 21, Massillon 14

    The second quarter started with Massillon's Ja’Meir Gamble returning a kickoff to midfield. The Tigers punted and Bergen Catholic took over at its own 24-yard line.

    First quarter

    On the final play of the first quarter, Dante Kain powered in for a touchdown from the 4-yard line. The touchdown was set up by an Anthony Perrotti kickoff return to the Massillon 20-yard line. Massillon 14, Bergen Catholic 14

    Massillon retook the lead with 1:56 left to go in the quarter on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Slaughter to Deangelo Zimmerman. Massillon 14, Bergen Catholic 7

    The Crusaders answered with a 56-yard pitch and catch from Dominic Campanile to Quincy Porter. Massillon 7, Bergen Catholic 7

    Massillon struck first with a 33-yard touchdown run by Ja’Meir Gamble. Massillon 7, Bergen Catholic 0

    Bergen Catholic went three-and-out on the opening drive of the game.

    Massillon won the coin toss and deferred.

    Pregame

    Weather could play a big factor in this game. Scattered thunderstorms are expected early in the game, with showers to follow.

    Seniors Phoenix-Orion DiCosmo and Kaden Irby-Mason, and junior Jack Harris will not play for Bergen Catholic.

    All three players have to sit out the early part of the season, per NJSIAA transfer rules . The rules allow players one "free transfer" prior to their junior season, but all other players have to sit out. DiCosmo and Irby-Mason both transferred after their junior years, and Harris (a junior) is transferring for a second time.
