NEW YORK — The Mets are hoping that Grimace can provide a little bit more magic in the team's quest to secure a playoff spot in the National League.

Before the Mets' final homestand, a special purple seat was installed in the second deck in right field to honor the big purple McDonald's mascot, who became a figurehead during the team's turnaround in June.

After Grimace threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Mets' game on June 12, the Mets proceeded to take off on a seven-game winning streak that moved them from nine games under .500 to 35-37. The Mets were 16-8 during a astonishing month of June when they got back to 40-41.

“It’s been great to see how our fanbase created the Grimace phenomenon following his first pitch in June and in the months since,” said Brenden Mallette, the Mets' senior vice president of partnerships. “As we explored how to further capture the magic of this moment and celebrate our new celebrity fan, installing a commemorative seat ahead of fan appreciation weekend felt like the perfect way to give something back to the fans in a fun and unique way."

The seat is located in section 302 in row six, seat 12 to commemorate the date of Grimace's pitch.

Before the Mets' series opener on Monday, fans could be seen taking pictures in and beside the seat in right field.
