Who says driving in New Jersey is chaotic?

A recent survey dispelled that notion for one spot in the Garden State, as Cape May was included on a list of places in the United States offering "the most stress-free driving experiences."

The poll, conducted by Frisco Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram in Frisco, Texas , surveyed 3,000 "seasoned travelers" to find the best spots to drive in the country. The results feature locations "where drivers are more considerate, roads are less congested, and the journey itself feels like part of the adventure, rather than an obstacle to overcome," according to the survey.

The namesake of New Jersey's southernmost county came in at No. 97 on the Top 100 list. It was the only municipality in the state to make the rankings, which excluded towns with populations under 25,000.

"Cape May’s coastal roads and historic charm create a calming driving environment," the survey stated. "Traffic is light, and the town's scenic views add to the overall stress-free experience."

Two of New Jersey's neighbors also saw one town each make the list: Reading, Pennsylvania, at 44th, and Ithaca, New York, at 76th. Delaware boasted one town near the top of the list, with Newark at No. 10, and another, Wilmington, at No. 36.

The top 10 places for stress-free driving, according to the survey, are as follows:

    Least stressful places to drive

    1. Lewiston, Maine
    2. Pocatello, Idaho
    3. Savannah, Georgia
    4. Gillette, Wyoming
    5. Topeka, Kansas
    6. Aberdeen, South Dakota
    7. Fargo, North Dakota
    8. Germantown, Maryland
    9. Casper, Wyoming
    10. Newark, Delaware

"The driving experience in these places is a reminder that patience and consideration on the road can make a world of difference," said Tyler Letson, general manager of Frisco CDJR. "It's something that drivers in more congested areas could certainly take a few lessons from."
