PHILADELPHIA — The stunning news came on Friday afternoon for the Mets as manager Carlos Mendoza announced that Kodai Senga would be making the start for Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Phillies on Saturday.

Senga has pitched in just one game this season after beginning the season on the injured list with a shoulder capsule strain, experiencing a setback with triceps discomfort and then suffering a high-grade calf strain in his first start of the season on July 26 against the Braves at Citi Field.

Now, Senga, who dazzled as the team's ace in his rookie season in 2023, will make his biggest start of his major league career. The 31-year-old right-hander will take the ball against the Phillies' Zack Wheeler in Game 1 at 4:08 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park.

The Mets named the rest of their NLDS roster on Saturday morning, with the only other major addition being right-hander Tylor Megill, who was unavailable for the wild card series after making Monday's start in the doubleheader opener against the Braves.

Right-handers Max Kranick and Huascar Brazoban were left off the NLDS roster after being included in the Wild Card Series.

Here is the rest of the Mets' NLDS Roster heading into their best-of-five series with the Phillies:
