    Football: Top public schools shaken up again in New Jersey Super 25 rankings

    A loaded Week 5 brought more changes to the New Jersey Super 25 rankings.

    Winslow jumped Toms River North for the top public-school spot on the strength of a 40-6 win over Camden. Both teams are 6-0, but the Eagles have three straight wins against ranked teams.

    Two upsets on the non-public side also caused some shuffling, as Holy Spirit stormed back to beat St. Augustine and Paramus Catholic outlasted St. Thomas Aquinas in overtime.

    Week 6 features three games between ranked teams: St. Joseph (Metuchen) at Phillipsburg, St. Joseph at Don Bosco, and Paramus Catholic at Bergen Catholic.

    Every week, voters from across the Network will rank the top teams in the state. The rankings will be posted every Tuesday morning.

    25. Glassboro (5-0)

    Public ranking: 15

    The Bulldogs notched their fourth consecutive shutout win in a 51-0 home rout over Deptford. The team has outscored their opponents 155-0 over the last four weeks. Kristopher Foster threw three touchdown passes to Amari Sabb, and Kenny Smith rushed for 183 yards and three touchdowns to power the Glassboro offense.

    Next game: Thursday at Cinnaminson (3-3)

    24. Somerville (6-0)

    Public ranking: 14

    The Pioneers scored an impressive 41-0 win over previously-undefeated Summit . Brenden Pacheco threw for 205 yards and four scores, and Max Nuzzi and Brady Scheier each registered more than 100 receiving yards and two touchdown catches.

    Next game: Thursday vs. North Hunterdon (2-4)

    23. West Morris (5-1)

    Public ranking: 13

    The Wolfpack won their fourth straight game and longtime coach Kevin Hennelly notched his 200th career win, beating Parsippany Hills, 42-7, on Friday. Peter Miragliotta ran for a game-high 86 yards and a touchdown, and Jaxon Corkery peeled off 62 yards and two touchdowns as four different running backs found the end zone.

    22. Phillipsburg (4-1)

    Public ranking: 12

    The Stateliners passed a test with a quality 21-14 win over West Orange on the road. Felix Matos blocked a punt and returned it 17 yards for a touchdown, and intercepted a pass to set up another score. Phillipsburg has won back-to-back games since losing to Ridge by a touchdown.

    21. Passaic Tech (5-1)

    Public ranking: 11

    The two-time defending Group 5 state finalists suffered their first regular-season setback in two years with F riday’s 21-7 loss at defending Group 4 finalist Ramapo . The Bulldogs committed three turnovers and cut the deficit to 14-7 in the second quarter on junior Gabe Miles’ 5-yard pass to senior Joel Perez.

    Next game: Friday at Irvington (2-2)

    20. Washington Township (5-1)

    Public ranking: 10

    The Minutemen allowed a season-worst 26 points, but they produced enough offensive firepower for a 35-26 win at Lenape on Friday. Cole Aquino threw for a pair of touchdown passes to Paris Pratt and Isaac Parra, Dayshaun Long returned a punt for a score, and Andrew Osborn and Caleb Palaganas each rushed for TDs to lift Washington Township to its second straight win.

    Next game: Thursday vs. Rancocas Valley (4-2)

    19. Camden (4-2)

    Public ranking: 9

    The Panthers surrendered 40 points for the first time in five years during a 40-6 loss at Winslow on Friday . Camden’s defense yielded 440 yards and the most points since a 72-8 loss to then-Woodrow Wilson back on Turkey Day in 2019. The Panthers’ offense sputtered with 156 total yards, including 68 on the ground. Camden has lost two of its last three games, including a setback to Holy Spirit.

    Next game: Friday vs. Timber Creek (4-2)

    18. Morris Knolls (5-0)

    Public ranking: 8

    Chris Kaiser rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns as the Golden Eagles ran past Mount Olive, 27-7, on Saturday . Bobby Brickner (119 yards) led a Morris Knolls rushing attack that amassed 377 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. The fifth straight win marks the longest win streak for Morris Knolls since a seven-game win streak during the 2017 season.

    17. St. Thomas Aquinas (4-2)

    Non-public ranking: 10

    The T rojans dropped a 35-34 overtime heartbreaker to Paramus Catholic on the road for their first New Jersey loss this season. Chukwuma Odoh rushed for 161 yards and two score,s and Ca'si Thomas returned a kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown to boost St. Thomas Aquinas.

    Next game: Friday vs. Edison (3-3)

    16. Ridge (4-1)

    Public ranking: 7

    The Red Devils’ offense exploded again in a 49-7 win over Union. Ryan Turner continued his strong season with 157 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just four carries. Ridge is averaging 38 points per game and has won four straight, including beating state-ranked Phillipsburg.

    Next game: Thursday at Hunterdon Central (4-2)

    15. Paramus Catholic (3-2)

    Non-public ranking: 9

    The Paladins outlasted then-No. 8 St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday in overtime, 35-34 . Senior Xavier Williams rushed for 224 yards and three scores, and knocked away a potential 2-point conversion pass in OT. Junior Marco Green threw for 225 yards in his first start. Junior Jordan Moreta returned an interception 58 yards for a TD.

    Next game: Saturday at Bergen Catholic (4-1)

    14. Mainland (4-2)

    Public ranking: 6

    For the second time this season, the Mustangs rebounded from a loss with a shutout victory. Mainland used two fourth-quarter touchdowns and a stout defensive effort to blank Ocean City, 14-0, on Friday. Rocco DeBiaso’s 3-yard touchdown run gave Mainland the lead on the first play of the fourth quarter. Mainland’s defense has posted two shutouts in its last three games.

    Next game: Thursday at Egg Harbor Township (4-2)

    13. St. Joseph (Metuchen) (5-0)

    Non-public ranking: 8

    The Falcons continued to play dominant defense with a balanced offensive attack in a 40-14 win over North Brunswick as five different players scored. Justin Scaramuzzo threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another score, Javon Hudson ran for two scores and Tyler Huseth kicked a 35-yard field goal in the win.

    Next game: Friday at Phillipsburg (4-1)

    12. St. Augustine (4-2)

    Non-public ranking: 7

    The Hermits squandered a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter and fell at Holy Spirit in South Jersey’s version of the Holy War. Julian Turney rushed 20 times for 94 yards and a touchdown, but the Hermits were held below 200 yards of total offense. St. Augustine’s defense allowed two scores in the same game for just the second time in six contests this season.

    Next game: Thursday vs. Lenape (1-5)

    11. Old Tappan (6-0)

    Public ranking: 5

    The Golden Knights registered their second consecutive shutout, 27-0, Saturday over Northern Highlands . Sophomore Zach Miceli threw for 278 yards, including a 76-yard TD pass to senior Ronan Malady and a 30-yard score to senior Alex Orecchio. Miceli ran for a 4-yard TD, and senior Nick Rossi closed the scoring on a 1-yard run.

    Next game: Oct. 18 at Wayne Hills (4-2)

    10. Rumson-Fair Haven (5-0)

    Public ranking: 4

    Junior running back Kellen Murray ran for career-high totals of 212 yards and four TDs on just 17 carries as the Bulldogs overcame an early deficit and beat Manchester Township, 42-7 . Senior quarterback Owen O'Toole three TD passes of 59 and 40 yards to senior receiver Jordan Angstreich in the win. O'Toole completed 13 of 21 passes for 224 yards, and Angstreich had six receptions for 139 yards.

    Next game: Thursday at Red Bank Catholic (3-2)

    9. Holy Spirit (5-1)

    Non-public ranking: 6

    Behind a pair of touchdown throws by Ty Costabile, the Spartans reeled off 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to knock off visiting St. Augustine, 14-10, on Friday. Costabile completed 10 of 21 passes, but none were bigger than the scoring strikes to Taylor Cartwright and Emanuel Gerena in the final quarter. The Spartans have won five straight since an opening week loss to Millville at the Battle at the Beach.

    Next game: Friday at Delsea (1-4)

    8. Don Bosco (2-3)

    The Ironmen suffered their second consecutive single-digit setback to a top-5 team with Friday’s 21-20 loss to DePaul . Sophomore Dylan Wrona scored on a 3-yard run and threw TD passes of 6 yards to senior Hunter Ditrano and 15 yards to sophomore Isaiah Alvarez, the last of which provided a 20-14 lead late in the third.

    Next game: Friday vs. St. Joseph (4-1)

    7. Millville (5-1)

    Public ranking: 3

    The Thunderbolts bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 23-7 home win over Delsea on Friday. Alabama commit Lotzeir Brooks became the first player in South Jersey history and second in state history to eclipse the 4,000-receiving yards mark for his career. He also recorded his 60th career touchdown catch.

    Next game: Oct. 18 at Cherokee (3-3)

    6. Toms River North (6-0)

    Public ranking: 2

    Senior running back Mordecai Ford ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries as the Mariners defeated Toms River South, 41-0, to even the all-time series at 26-26-1. Senior Nasir Jackson returned a fumble 39 yards for a TD, and caught a 39-yard TD pass from senior quarterback T.J. Valerio. Toms River North extended the state's longest winning streak to 11 and its winning streak against public schools to 32.

    5. Winslow (6-1)

    The Eagles soared to their sixth straight win, knocking off state-ranked Camden, 40-6, on Friday . It was just another day at the office for sophomore quarterback Jalen Parker, who threw four touchdown passes for the second consecutive week. Parker completed 22 of 27 passes for 297 yards, raising his season totals in passing yards to 1,156 and touchdowns to 17. The Eagles have outscored their opponents 212-34 this season.

    Next game: Saturday at Camden Eastside (0-6)

    4. Delbarton (5-1)

    Non-public ranking: 4

    The Green Wave staved off an upset on homecoming weekend, coming from behind to beat rival Pope John, 35-34, on Saturday. Will Kramer connected on two field goals − a 49-yarder in the second quarter and a 27-yard game-winning kick in the final minute − to complete the comeback. Matt Tafuri caught touchdown passes of 37-yards and 85-yards from quarterback Jadon Prinzivalli.

    Next game: Oct. 19 vs. Bergen Catholic (4-1)

    3. DePaul (6-0)

    Non-public ranking: 3

    The Spartans are 6-0 for the first time since 2008 after holding on for Friday’s 21-20 victory at Don Bosco . Junior Derek Zammit threw for 214 yards, including TD passes of 36 and 30 yards to senior Elijah Burress. Senior Anthony Nittoli returned an interception 6 yards for a TD in the second quarter for a 14-7 lead.

    Next game: Oct. 17 vs. St. Peter’s Prep (3-3), at Hinchliffe Stadium

    2. St. Joseph (Montvale) (4-1)

    Non-public ranking: 2

    The Green Knights are coming off a bye week and riding a four-game winning streak. Junior Lamar Best has thrown for 875 yards and 10 TDs, and rushed for 332 yards and six scores. Junior Nate Bailey has 20 catches for 285 yards and four TDs. Junior AJ Revella has team highs of 16 solo tackles and 29 total tackles.

    Next game: Friday at Don Bosco (2-3)

    1. Bergen Catholic (4-1)

    Non-public ranking: 1

    The three-time defending Non-Public A state champs are coming off a bye week and own a 19-game win streak against Garden State foes. Senior Dominic Campanile has thrown for 829 yards and 11 TDs. Senior Quincy Porter has 20 catches for 437 yards and four TDs. Junior Najee Calhoun has rushed for 564 yards and four scores.

    Next game: Saturday vs. Paramus Catholic (3-2)
