Prudential Center officials are working to provide more information to would-be concertgoers after Justin Timberlake abruptly postponed his show at the Newark venue Tuesday.

The singer announced the news on Instagram Tuesday evening shortly before doors opened, citing "an injury that is preventing me from performing" as the reason for his postponement.

"I'm so disappointed to not see you all - but I'm working to reschedule ASAP," Timberlake wrote. "I promise to make it up to you and give you the show y'all deserve."

The Prudential Center is working with Timberlake's team on a new concert date, according to the arena website , but nothing has been scheduled yet. Ticketholders are asked to hang on to their tickets, and the venue will send an email when the event status changes or a rescheduled date is announced.

"Please follow both artist and venue social media accounts for updates and keep an eye on your inbox for updates from your original point of purchase," the website stated.

Many fans on Instagram expressed their frustration with the timing of Timberlake's announcement, noting that they had already spent money on travel and childcare ahead of the concert and would have appreciated earlier notice. Others urged empathy for the singer, pointing out that he could have injured himself right before doors opened or been advised by doctors not to perform.

"I highly doubt Justin would cancel so last minute if he didn’t absolutely need to," one commenter wrote.

Timberlake is in the middle of The Forget Tomorrow World Tour , which began April 29 in Vancouver and has already included more than 50 concerts throughout North America and Europe. The next show is scheduled for Friday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

The tour was already underway when Timberlake was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Sag Harbor, New York, in June. Last month, he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and was fined and sentenced to community service.
