Meet NorthJersey.com's adoptable pets of the week for Oct. 11!

Each week, NorthJersey.com would like to highlight adoptable animals from local shelters and rescues .

If you foster, work at, or volunteer with a North Jersey animal shelter or rescue and know of some animals who are in need of a loving fur-ever home please send a photo, description and adoption information to amwallace@gannett.com to have your adoptable pets featured in the next edition.

This week we are featuring Prince and Roscoe from Save the Animals Rescue Team II (START II) in Englewood .

Prince came to START II in August from a life on the street. He is estimated to be between 2 and 3 years old.

Extremely sweet and loving, Prince loves to play, especially with his tail, and will follow you around like a puppy.

He enjoys time with other cats but is not a fan of dogs. He is also not very fond of being picked up. Due to that, the shelter recommends that he goes to a home with no young children.

Overall, Prince will make a fabulous addition to just about any home as long as his family is willing to love him and play with him.

If you are interested in Prince, please fill out an application at https://sites.google.com/view/save-the-animals-rescue-team-2/adoption?authuser=0 - and make an appointment to visit him.

Roscoe is a 5-month-old spaniel and hound mix who made the journey to START II from Virginia a couple of weeks ago. He is looking for a second chance at life after his previous owner surrendered him because, "they had no time for him."

This sweet, lovable pup is the real deal. He is playful, easygoing, confident, fun, affectionate, smart and responsive. Roscoe loves his new surroundings and likes to explore.

He is great with people of all ages, including children, and even other dogs. When it comes to cats, Roscoe will chase them, but he won't hurt them. He walks well on a leash and will sit for a treat.

Overall, Roscoe will make a great addition to any family who is willing to love him and give him a great life.

Roscoe is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and is waiting for his new forever family at START II in Englewood.

Save the Animals Rescue Team II

For several months, Save the Animals Rescue Team II has been facing the threat of closure amid a shortage of funds, volunteers and adoptions.

Diane Errichiello, who has been volunteering with START II since about 2014, has expressed several concerns about the future of the struggling shelter, which currently has over 60 adoptable animals between the Englewood shelter location, the Paramus PetSmart and foster care.

According to Errichiello, START II is in desperate need of volunteers to help work on fundraising, events and caring for animals in the shelter.

"We need volunteers to help clean and maintain the shelter along with care for the animals," which need to be socialized, fed, and living in clean cages, said Errichiello. "It's not hard work but it takes time and can be fun since you are surrounded by animals all day."

Volunteering in the shelter may also include scheduling vet appointments, answering phones and helping out potential adopters.

Errichiello continued, "If we can get a good fundraising team, we can then raise the much-needed funds to help sustain the shelter and the animals ... We go through a lot of funds daily for food, medication, spay/neuter and other medical help, daily cleaning and running a shelter. It takes thousands of dollars to run a shelter each year and this is why it's crucial to fundraise."

In order to work with the animals, volunteers must be 18 years or older. However, volunteers of all ages can assist in fundraising and working at events.

If you love working with animals and have some spare time, please consider becoming part of the team and fill out a volunteer application at www.startii.org .

In addition to volunteers, START II is in need of fosters. According to Errichiello, the shelter will pay for all medical, food and any supplies needed while fostering an adoptable animal.

"As we are in sheltering for about 45 years or so, there are just a few of us trying to do everything," said Errichiello. "It's impossible, and the ones to suffer greatly are the animals. They are looking for us to help find them their forever home."

She continued, "Volunteers are the key to the animals' future, life and happiness. Together as a community we can achieve this by giving animals a second chance at life. It is a matter of life and death."

For more information about how you can help through volunteering, fostering, or donating to START II, visit the shelter's website at www.startii.org .
