Meet NorthJersey.com's adoptable pets of the week for Oct. 18!

Each week, NorthJersey.com would like to highlight adoptable animals from local shelters and rescues .

If you foster, work at, or volunteer with a North Jersey animal shelter or rescue and know of some animals who are in need of a loving fur-ever home please send a photo, description and adoption information to amwallace@gannett.com to have your adoptable pets featured in the next edition.

This week we are featuring Chance and Oliver from Brick City Kitties Rescue Inc. in Newark .

    Chance

Chance is a sweet boy who is a little over a year old. He has cerebellar hyperplasia, which causes him to have a little trouble walking, but he gets around quite well, and he uses the litter box. He plops in and lays sideways, but he uses it every time. He also eats out of silicone bowls because he pecks his food and could harm himself with hard bowls.

Chance gets along with other cats and loves to play with toys but his favorite thing to do is hang out in tunnels. Even more than that, he loves to be around people! If he hears your voice, he sits up with his chest poked out, paws straight in front of him with his big, beautiful eyes staring right at you. As you get closer, he starts flopping around with excitement in the most adorable way.

His favorite treats are Temptations, and he likes to spread them out. He will use his front paw to pull a bunch out of the bowl, put them in front of him, and eat two or three before pulling more out.

Chance has been neutered, vaccinated and tested negative for FIV and FELV and he is looking for his forever family. He is a volunteer favorite.

"I look forward to seeing him every day and anyone who gets him will feel this same joy," said Barbara Carney, founder and president of Brick City Kitties Rescue, Inc. "If you are looking to have a sweet boy who just loves to be with his human and you don't mind his wobbly walk, then look no further because Chance is definitely your boy. Take a chance on Chance!"

    Oliver

Oliver is between 8 and 9 years old. He can be described as affectionate, gentle, quiet and dignified.

A sweet old man who prefers to have his own space, Oliver loves to lounge around and cuddle on the couch. Although he is independent, he can be very loving from time to time when he is in the mood for cuddles and scratches. He spends his spare time basking in the sun.

Oliver would do best as an only cat or in a house with a female cat or two. He would also be perfect for an older person or a couple.

He has been neutered and received a rabies and FVRCP vaccine. Oliver also tested negative for FIV and FELV.
