It was a scary situation for the New York Jets on Sunday night when offensive lineman Xavier Newman was taken off the field on the blue board against the Steelers in Pittsburgh.

Here's the latest on what we know about the status of Newman:

    What happened to Xavier Newman?

With 7:22 remaining in the third quarter, Newman was hit to the ground by Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen.

He remained down on the sideline for a handful of minutes while the training staff attended to him.

Per the NBC broadcast, they stabilized his neck, spine-boarded him and put him on a gurney as he was taken to a hospital in the Pittsburgh area.

Newman reportedly has movement in his limbs as he squeezed athletic trainers' hands, according to the broadcast.

Who is Xavier Newman's backup on Jets' depth chart?

Although not a starter, a potential name to step in for Newman now will be Jake Hanson on the offensive line.
