One person died after a NJ Transit train struck a vehicle at the Ryerson Road crossing in Lincoln Park on Monday morning, officials said.

At about 9:27 a.m., Montclair-Boonton Line train 1074 struck the vehicle, per a NJ Transit spokesperson. The adult male driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, said NJ Transit in a statement.

No injuries were reported to the approximately 40 people or crew that were on board the train at the time, according to NJ Transit.

Those on board were accommodated by a bus after the crash.

The train departed Hackettstown at 8:24 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Hoboken at 10:30 a.m., said Kyalo Mulumba, an NJ Transit official.

The Lincoln Park Police Department said "Ryerson Road will be closed in both directions between Boonton Turnpike and Sylvan Street for a few hours." They said to "please avoid the area."

Preliminary reports of the active investigation indicate that the crossing gates were working as intended when the crash happened. The crossing gates were in the down position when driver "drove the vehicle around the gates and positioned the vehicle into the path of the train," said NJ Transit.

No other information on how the collision occurred was released by NJ Transit. NJ Transit Police are investigating the crash.
