PORT CLINTON — Boys tennis district tournament play concluded Saturday with a host of locals qualifying for state competition, including two singles players and one doubles team capturing their respective district titles.

The Division I and Division II tournaments both took place at Port Clinton. The two finalists in Division I earned state tournament places for both singles and doubles, while the four semifinalists all advanced at the Division II level.

Nick Miller of St. Francis de Sales was the D-I singles champion, defeating Gabe Burke of Lima Shawnee 6-3, 6-3 in the district final. Miller had defeated Miles Green of St. John’s Jesuit in the semifinals to lock up his state bid.

Northview’s Max Forquer saw his run come to an end with a semifinal loss to Burke.

Southview brothers Isaac and Landon Vens won the D-I doubles title with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Findlay’s team of Sam Swisher and Aaron Miller. Anthony Wayne’s Logan and Brody Sutto lost to the Vens brothers in the semifinals with a state berth at stake.

Jack Kayse of Ottawa Hills became the D-II singles champion, beating Lexington’s Cooper Remy 6-0, 6-2. Perkins’ Chase Young won the third-place match over Bryan’s Landon Bassett.

Kayse advanced to state by defeating Lexington’s Philip Etzel 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Bassett picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over St. Marys Memorial’s Cody Birt in that round.

The D-II doubles championship went to Lexington’s Ethan Remy and Ethan Catanese. Pairs from Ontario and Lexington finished second and third, with Savith Vijendra and Chris Thompson of Ottawa Hills coming in fourth to be the only local pair advancing to state.

Vijendra and Thompson won 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinals against Alex Krintzline and Aric Kauble of Clyde to clinch their state berth.

The state tournament is set for Thursday and Friday in Wooster, Ohio.
