LOUISVILLE — The Toledo Mud Hens won over Louisville in extra innings by a final of 9-8 on Thursday in a game that was a continuation of play that was suspended Wednesday.

Because of a rainout the night before, Thursday was penciled in as a doubleheader, but the seven-inning nightcap had to be postponed because of weather again. As a result, on Friday the Mud Hens and Bats will play a pair of seven-inning contests with first pitch of the opener coming at 5:05 p.m. at Louisville Slugger Field.

Although Toledo (26-21) had blown a five-run lead that forced the game into extras, a Bligh Madris sacrifice fly scored Jace Jung for the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th inning, allowing the Mud Hens to prevail.

Toledo pitcher Trey Wingenter struck out the side in the bottom half to shut down the Bats and earn the win.

The game was suspended on Wednesday in the middle of the fourth inning as Toledo held a 4-1 lead. When play resumed Thursday, the Hens tacked on three more in the top of the fifth to make it 7-1.

Parker Meadows got it started with a solo home run off new Louisville pitcher Stevie Branch, then Justyn-Henry Malloy followed with a walk. After a double play, Dillon Dingler’s solo home run to right field and Akil Baddoo’s bomb to right-center put the Hens up by six runs.

The Bats (26-21) cut into their deficit in the bottom of the fifth by way of Levi Jordan’s two-run homer that pulled them within 7-3.

Dingler went yard for the second time in the game and sixth time this season in the seventh for an 8-3 Hens lead. In total, there were seven home runs hit between the two teams.

A Peyton Burdick two-out RBI single brought home Levi Jordan to trim the Hens’ lead in half (8-4) in the eighth.

Louisville then was able to tag Toledo hurler Easton Lucas, who replaced Sean Guenther to start the ninth, with four runs on five hits. Three straight hits, the last a two-run double off the bat of Erik Gonzalez cut it to 8-6.

The Bats also added RBI singles from Rece Hinds and P.J. Higgins, tying the game at 8. Higgins’ base knock came with two outs.

Tony Santillan, who pitched the 11th for Louisville, suffered the loss. Randy Wynne started for the Bats and went 3⅓ innings.

For the Hens in the batter’s box, Madris finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs, while Dingler (2 for 5) and Baddoo (2 for 4) each drove in a pair of runs and scored two as well.

Jordan paced the Bats, finishing 4 for 6 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
