    Division II track and field: Oak Harbor boys win regional title

    LEXINGTON, Ohio — Oak Harbor’s boys track and field team captured the team championship at the Division II regional meet at Lexington High School that concluded on Saturday.

    The top four finishers in each event qualified for next week’s state meet at Welcome Stadium in Dayton. In addition, the top two finishers outside of the top four statewide also will qualify.

    Oak Harbor totaled 58 points, edging out Huron and Ontario, which each had 56.

    The Rockets were led by Tyler Thompson’s win in the 200-meter dash (21.92) and third-place finish in the 100 (10.83).

    Turning in runner-up finishes for Oak Harbor were Wyatt Augsburger in the 110 hurdles (14.72), Braden Schultz in the high jump (6-4), and Evan Hall in the shot put (56-1½). The Rockets’ 800 relay finished third in 1:29.10.

    Other boys event winners were Central Catholic’s Victor Singleton in the long jump (23-¼) and Liberty-Benton’s Stefan Kolan in the pole vault (16-2).

    For Liberty-Benton, Gabe St. Amour was third in the 1,600 (4:25.38), while Owen Wilkins was third in the 300 hurdles (39.73), and fourth in the 110 hurdles (14.98). Eastwood’s Jakob Zibbel was fourth in the 1,600 (4:27.74).

    Rogers and Central Catholic qualified third (3:25.05) and fourth (3:25.13), respectively, in the 1,600 relay.

    Rounding out the boys field events, Elmwood’s Micah Oliver was third in the high jump (6-4), and Central Catholic’s Elijah Williams was fourth in the shot put (50-6¾).

    On the girls side, Central Catholic’s Nyla King picked up three individual qualifications with two titles. She won the 100 (11.84) and 200 (24.59), and was runner-up in the 400 (55.46).

    Port Clinton had two advancing relay teams with a win in the 400 relay (48.84), and a runner-up in the 800 relay (1:43.13). Oak Harbor won the 1,600 relay (3:57.57).

    In field events, Genoa’s Lillian Frias won the high jump (5-5). Port Clinton’s Michaela Stork was third in the discus (129-8).

    Eastwood’s Leah Emch was runner-up in the 3,200 (11:24.92).

    Lake’s Brianna Braatz was second in the 200 (25.13), and third in the 100 (12.23), while Savannah Little, her teammate, was third in the 400 (56.85).

    Also finishing fourth in the sprints were Port Clinton’s Alexis Shelton in the 100 (12.45), Rossford’s Mia DeBortoli in the 200 (25.57), and Oak Harbor’s Olivia Cherry in the 400 (57.52).

    Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown and Huron split the girls team title with 49 points, while Port Clinton and Lake were third (35) and fourth (34), respectively. Central Catholic (28) was sixth.

    D-II AT PIQUA: In the region at Piqua High School, a pair of area girls athletes won regional titles in the field events.

    Otsego’s Brooke Simon took the discus at 133 feet, 10 inches, while Wauseon’s Teagan Rupp cleared 11 feet, 4 inches to win the pole vault.

    Also for Otsego, Molly Kramer was second in the 100 hurdles (15.57), and Leah McCabe was third in the high jump (5-4). Bryan’s Kate Thormeier was fourth in the 1,600 (5:09.41).

    On the boys side, Otsego’s Nathan Strahm was second in the 800 (1:54.06), while Napoleon’s 400 relay team was fourth (43:21).

    Batavia won the boys team title, while Ottawa-Glandorf won the girls title.
