    Religious Offerings: Sacred music and halupki

    ■ Holy Assumption Orthodox Church hosts its 67th annual Halupki Festival in Marblehead on Sunday.

    Divine Liturgy will be at 10 a.m. before festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. Admission is free and there will be a free shuttle bus running between parking areas and the festival grounds.

    Starting at 11:30 a.m., volunteers will serve a Carpatho-Russian Dinner, including halupki (cabbage rolls), pierogi, kielbasa, and baklava. An Eastern European a la carte will be served starting at 2 p.m., which will feature items like spanakopita (spinach pie) and halushji (cabbage and noodles), in addition to the dinner food offerings. Baked goods will also be sold.

    The festival will feature live polka music, an array of craft vendors, raffles, face painting, a bounce house, and a climbing wall. Festival-goers can also enjoy tours of the historic church and a demonstration of pysanky Easter egg art. Orthodox religious items will be for sale.

    The celebration of Carpatho-Russian culture will be held at 110 E. Main St., Marblehead, through 6 p.m. For more information, go to holyassumptionmarblehead.org .

    Sacred Strings Records Inc. presents its 16th annual showcase concert and banquet, with the theme “Steel Here!” on Saturday.

    The event is noon to 6 p.m. at the Perrysburg Hilton Garden Inn, 6165 Levis Commons Blvd. Food will be served at 12:30 p.m. There will also be inductions to the Sacred Steel Hall of Fame. Tickets, $50, may be purchased at bit.ly/4do0V6s .

    Del Ray and Kelli Grace founded Sacred Strings in 2009 to to preserve the sacred steel style of African American gospel music. More information is at sacredstrings.com .

    ■ Toledo Campus Ministry is collecting used items Monday and Tuesday for its upcoming thrift fair . Shoes, clothes, dorm furniture, books, school supplies, kitchenware, and more can be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. at 2086 Brookdale Rd., Toledo.

    The event will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Aug. 25 to support University of Toledo students who are moving back to campus. The wider community is also welcome to shop the sale.

    ■ The MultiFaith Council of Northwest Ohio is bringing the Bridging to Belonging program, which was developed in Detroit, to the area in an effort to promote compassion.

    The program uses methods such as storytelling, listening, and values recognition to develop skills and build a sense of belonging. Small, diverse groups of six to eight people will gather to discuss their story, engage across differences, and do positive work in the community. Moderators will be trained in September and October before small groups begin meeting in October.

    An introductory workshop will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 24 at Olivet Lutheran Church, 5840 Monroe St., Sylvania. Register at bit.ly/MFCB2B24 .

    ■ The Oregon Meijer will contribute $20 to Helping Hands of St. Louis for every $10 Simply Give! food donation card purchased at the grocery store, 1725 S. Wheeling St., on Saturday and again on Sept. 14. Donations will be given to the food pantry as Meijer gift cards.

    Up to $5,000 of Simply Give! purchases will be matched, for a maximum of $10,000 in contributions from Meijer.

    The Simply Give! campaign is ongoing with a $10 for $10 match through Sept. 28.

    Helping Hands of St. Louis, based in East Toledo, provides meals, groceries, clothing, hygiene products, showers, and other social services to low-income and homeless individuals.

    Meijer started its Double Match Days program in 2012 to serve Midwest communities.
