CHARLOTTE — The Toledo Mud Hens managed only four hits and fell to the Charlotte Knights 3-2 in 10 innings on Thursday at Truist Field.

The Mud Hens went quietly in the top of the 10th, failing to advance automatic runner Riley Unroe from second base.

In the bottom half, Charlotte’s Bryan Ramos laced a two-out, walk-off single up the middle off Devin Sweet (7-6). Zach DeLoach scored from second as the winning run.

Charlotte pitchers combined to retire the final 12 Toledo batters in order, with Aaron McGarity (8-1) pitching the final two innings to get the victory.

Ryan Vilade’s two-run homer put the Mud Hens on the board first in the fifth inning, also plating Drew Maggi. Vilade went 2 for 4, while Unroe also doubled.

The Knights got two runs of their own in the sixth inning on Tim Elko’s RBI single and another unearned via an Andrew Navigato fielding error at second base.

Toledo starter Troy Watson worked 3⅔ scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out a pair.

Riley Greene started in left field for the Mud Hens and was 0 for 3 with a strikeout as he began an injury rehab assignment. He hit second in the order before Justice Bigbie went in for him as a defensive replacement in the sixth inning.

ROSTER MOVES: The Detroit Tigers called up Trey Sweeney and Jace Jung from Toledo, according to multiple media reports Thursday.

Sweeney, acquired by the organization at the July 30 trade deadline from the Los Angeles Dodgers, found instant success with the Mud Hens. He hit .381 (16 for 42) in 11 games with two home runs, nine RBIs, and five walks, while adding four stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Jung, the No. 5 prospect in the organization according to MLB.com, was hitting .257 in Triple-A with 14 home runs and 60 RBIs in 91 games. He played third base in 65 games for the Mud Hens, 18 at second base, and nine as designated hitter.

Jung was drafted No. 12 overall out of Texas Tech in the 2022 MLB draft by Detroit and is the No. 64 overall prospect according to MLB.com.
