A Lucas County judge ruled the bond of a man charged with vehicular homicide will remain the same ahead of his arraignment on a new charge.

Kenneth Pegler, 55, of Temperance, who’s charged in the crash that killed Nicholas Reinhart, 30, on July 30, will have the same bond of $750,000, with his bond-modification hearing continued and arraignment on his new tampering with evidence charge set for 11 a.m. Aug. 30, Judge Dean Mandros ruled Friday.

The judge decided to continue his bond modification hearing to allow the prosecution and defense to secure more witnesses before he rules on the modification request.

On top of his tampering with evidence charge, Pegler is also charged with alternative counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, alternative counts of failure to stop at the scene of an accident, and operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol, drugs, or both for the crash in the 200 block of East Alexis Road.

After hitting Reinhart with his Dodge Ram pickup truck, the Toledo Police Department said, Pegler dragged him down the street with his vehicle for about 40 feet before he was left on the road, where another driver found him and called 911.

Pegler has several prior drunken-driving convictions on Alexis Road and has charges pending in Michigan for a nighttime crash into a house last year that injured two occupants.
