    High school football roundup: Napoleon edges Defiance in overtime

    NAPOLEON — George Eggers rushed for 80 yards, had 65 yards receiving, and scored five touchdowns total as Napoleon eked out a 35-34 overtime victory Friday night against Defiance.

    The Wildcats’ victory was among a slate of nonconference encounters as area teams kicked off the first Friday night of the Ohio high school football season.

    The sophomore scored the game-winning run in the extra period on a 5-yard scamper.

    Defiance had a chance to win the game in regulation after Abel Rubio bulldozed his way into the end zone to make it 28-28 with 18 seconds left in the fourth quarter, but Bulldogs kicker Nicasio Hall missed the extra point wide left to force OT.

    Owen Espinoza finished 30 of 41 for 250 yards and two touchdown passes for the Wildcats. Trey Rubenstein reeled in 108 yards receiving with 12 receptions.

    Anthony Wilder rushed for 116 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns for the Bulldogs.

    Napoleon is at Liberty Center on Friday night.

    OAK HARBOR 44, BOWSHER 6

    OAK HARBOR, Ohio — The Rockets put up 37 first-quarter points.

    Carson Ridener had 87 rushing yards and two touchdowns (42, 7 yards) on six carries, and turned his only reception from Michael Lalonde into a 47-yard touchdown. Lalonde threw for 186 yards on 12 of 17 attempts with two touchdowns.

    Wyatt Augsburger led Oak Harbor with 90 receiving yards and a touchdown (56 yards) on five catches.

    Bowsher's Jordan Singer threw for 158 yards on 12 of 28 attempts, including a 10-yard touchdown pass to Terryion Wright in the third quarter.

    Bowsher is at Genoa and Oak Harbor plays host to Woodward on Friday night.

    ELIDA 40, ROGERS 0

    The visitors scored 28 points in the first half .

    Quarterback Ryan McGue had a pair of touchdown throws to Amari Wash of 20 and 16 yards respectively.. McGue also had a rushing touchdown.

    Rogers is home Friday night to Springfield.

    ALLEN EAST 46, SCOTT 12

    HARROD, Ohio — Jackson Thompson went 10-for-16 through the air for 142 yards and three touchdowns with 37 yards rushing.

    Teammate Ethan Hershberger scored on a 70-yard interception return and a 55-yard kickoff return.

    Scott plays host to St. Francis de Sales at 6 p.m. Friday.

    NORWALK 26, START 7

    Nico Helton carried 29 times for 85 yards and three touchdowns.

    Brayden Viock found Jameson Poole for a 12-yard TD strike also for the visitors.

    Tai'Rese Highsmith rushed six times for 76 yards and a 16-yard TD for Start.

    Start is at Clyde on Friday night.

    WAPAKONETA 35, ST. JOHN'S JESUIT 21

    WAPAKONETA, Ohio — Caleb Moyer's third touchdown run of the night in the fourth quarter sealed the host Redskins' victory over the Titans.

    Wapakoneta jumped out to a 21-0 lead with three first-quarter touchdowns. St. John's rallied with a 1-yard touchdown run by Carson Pawlowicz and a 26-yard scoring pass from Coy Hamic to Karter Washington to make it an eight-point game at halftime.

    After Moyer scored on a 1-yard run in the third, Pawlowicz connected with Washington in the fourth on a 45-yard touchdown pass to make it a seven-point game prior to Moyer's game-capping score.

    Moyer completed 11 of 17 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns, adding 54 yards and three touchdowns on the ground on 16 carries. Kaden Page caught six passes for 107 yards and a score for Wapakoneta.

    Washington had 107 receiving yards on nine catches for St. John's.

    St. John’s plays host to Anthony Wayne on Friday night.

    ANTHONY WAYNE 35, HILLIARD DARBY 13

    Grant Kinnee was 10-of-15 passing for 110 yards, but did most of his damage on the ground with 16 carries for 124 yards and four rushing touchdowns in the Generals' home win.

    Kinnee scored on runs of 4, 3, 7, and 6 yards. Braden Gardner added 10 carries for 100 yards and a 46-yard TD run.

    Nick Coverstone scored two 3-yard rushing TDs for Hilliard Darby.

    Anthony Wayne goes on the road to play St. John’s Jesuit on Friday night.

    WHITMER 42, DUBLIN COFFMAN 14

    Whitmer quarterback Brady Ford was 12-for-16 passing and connected on a pair of touchdowns as the Panthers cruised to victory over visiting Dublin Coffman.

    Joey Morales had an 81-yard touchdown reception, along with 35 yards on the ground and a score, and Jaden Jones finished with 60 yards rushing on 11 carries and a pair of TDs for Whitmer.

    Amari Valerio-Hudson racked up 187 yards on 24 carries and two scores to pace Coffman.

    Whitmer hits the road to play at Central Catholic on Friday night.

    OTSEGO 41, BOWLING GREEN 7

    TONTOGANY, Ohio — Keeghan Hutton ran for 185 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries and caught an 86-yard touchdown pass from Kaidyn Hutton as the Knights rolled past the Bobcats.

    Mason Kramer ran for two second-half touchdowns for Otsego.

    Ja'ceous Shannon ran for a 40-yard score for Bowling Green.

    Bowling Green is home against Fostoria and Otsego is at Defiance Tinora on Friday.

    LAKE 34, LEIPSIC 22

    LEIPSIC, Ohio — Lake quarterback Carter Behlmer finished 18 of 27 for 247 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

    Also for the visiting Flyers, Dylan Wright carried the ball nine times for 53 yards and three TDs.

    Jayce Brencht caught seven passes for 134 yards and a score to lead Leipsic.

    Lake hosts Northwood on Friday.

    VAN WERT 48, BRYAN 8

    VAN WERT, Ohio — Briston Wise ran for four touchdowns and ran for two more for the host Cougars.

    Wise had scoring runs of 2, 2 23, and 84 yards, and he completed touchdown passes of 15 and 40 yards.

    Bryan got on the scoreboard first, with Cade Carlin completing a 17-yard touchdown pass to Carter Dominique.

    Bryan hosts Maumee on Friday night.

    EVERGREEN 35, ELMWOOD 7

    BLOOMDALE, Ohio — Bryce Bolger threw for two touchdowns and ran for another at Elmwood..

    Bolger completed 9 of 14 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Max Mossing (32 yards, 11 carries) had a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs in the first half, and he had a 48-yard scoring reception from Bolger in the third quarter.

    Will Ruetz caught four passes for 81 yards and a score for Evergreen.

    Evergreen is at Ottawa Hills on Friday night.

    LIBERTY CENTER 38, TINORA 0

    LIBERTY CENTER, Ohio — Garrison Kruse, Thomas Mohler, and Waylon Rentz each rushed for a touchdown and Grady Millwe threw two TD passes..

    Kruse rushed six times for 76 yards and a 49-yard TD rush and also caught a 74-yard TD pass from Millwe. Mohler rushed seven times for 70 yards and scored on a 5-yard run, while Rentz scored on his lone carry of 62 yards.

    Millwe also found Jaxton Lawniczak on a 55-yard TD connection. Ian Rosebrook completed the Tigers' scoring with a 24-yard field goal.

    Liberty Center will host Napoleon on Friday night.

    PATRICK HENRY 47, HICKSVILLE 6

    HAMLER, Ohio — Lincoln Creager ran four four touchdowns and threw for two more, kicking seven extra points for good measure, as the host Patriots rolled past the Aces.

    Creager ran for 103 yards on six carries, and he completed 5 of 8 passes for 114 yards. Teammate Jaiden Rutter racked up 122 yards on seven carries, including a 69-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

    Grant Smith (83 yards, five carries) opened scoring for the Patriots with a 68-yard touchdown run.

    Patrick Henry plays at Ayersville on Friday night.

    PAULDING 34, SWANTON 0

    Colten Hunt finished 23 of 35 for 289 yards and five touchdowns at Swanton.

    Swanton is at Hicksville on Friday night.

    MORRAL RIDGEDALE 14, HILLTOP 13

    WEST UNITY, Ohio — Both teams scored a pair of touchdowns, but a missed extra point on the game's final score in the third quarter proved costly for the host Cadets.

    Hilltop's Cameron Shimp threw for 68 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 7 of 19 pass attempts. Brycen Grubbs caught a 23-yard score, while Brock Kesler scored from 31 yards out.

    Ridgedale's Michael Deas ran for 226 yards and two touchdowns (38, 19 yards) on 30 carries.

    Hilltop is at Edgerton on Friday night.

    GIBSONBURG 26, OTTAWA HILLS 7

    GIBSONBURG, Ohio — Reece Walby and Antonio Salazar each scored a pair of touchdowns.

    Walby racked up 167 yards on 15 carries, scoring on touchdowns of 4 and 9 yards as Gibsonburg totaled 311 rushing yards.

    Meanwhile, Salazar had a 23-yard rushing touchdown and a 12-yard scoring catch from Camden Mooney (1-of-2 passing).

    Reddik Pillarelli turned 10 receptions into 116 yards and a 35-yard touchdown for the Green Bears. Chase Miller finished 15 of 26 for 183 yards and a touchdown to three interceptions.

    Ottawa Hills will host Evergreen and Gibsonburg travels to Attica Seneca East on Friday night.

    CORY-RAWSON 29, ARCADIA 22

    RAWSON, Ohio — Cory-Rawson picked up its first season opening victory since 2010.

    Arcadia is home against Lakota on Friday night.

    LIBERTY-BENTON 35, OTTAWA-GLANDORF 6

    OTTAWA, Ohio — Trevin Lieb set the tone for Liberty-Benton, finishing with 244 yards passing with a pair of touchdowns.

    University of Toledo commit Seth Elchert snagged both touchdowns en route to a 5-reception, 106-yard performance.

    Liberty-Benton will host Columbus Grove on Friday night.

    WOODMORE 37, NORTH CENTRAL 0

    PIONEER, Ohio — Landon Rich carried 24 times for 202 yards and four rushing touchdowns.

    Rich scored on runs of 7, 4, 10, and 31 yards. Calvin Lipstraw was 6-of-10 passing for 108 yards, including a 60-yard TD connection with Wesley Kayser.

    The Wildcats added two safeties and held North Central to -10 total yards of offense.

    Woodmore is home to Montpelier and North Central is at Paulding on Friday night.

    MAUMEE 41, SPRINGFIELD 8

    Ben Kubicz threw for 153 yards and three touchdowns on the road.

    Kubicz completed 11 of 16 passes with an interception. He found Carson Graetz for six catches, 73 yards and two touchdowns (7, 41), and Will Kubicz for a 42-yard score as the Panthers scored the first 41 points.

    Nate Pope caught a 40-yard touchdown from Kaiden Taylor, and finished with 85 yards on three catches. Gabe Gregory led the Blue Devils with 85 rushing yards on 16 carries.

    Maumee is at Bryan and Springfield plays at Rogers on Friday night.

    ROSSFORD 21, NORTHWOOD 14

    Ronnie Hawkins rushed 28 times for 94 yards and two touchdowns as Rossford picked up the road.

    Hawkins scored on runs of 6 and 8 yards and Tyler Clark completed 7 of 18 passes for 86 yards and a 53-yard TD pass to Zaydin Morrison.

    Tyler Osley carried 15 times for 61 yards and an 11-yard TD run and completed 3 of 9 passes for 82 yards. Landan Kidd added five carries for 50 yards and a 1-yard TD run.

    Rossford will open its home schedule against Port Clinton and Northwood is at Lake on Friday night.

    CLEVELAND JOHN ADAMS 28, WOODWARD 8

    In the earliest kickoff of the season for Toledo-area teams, Cleveland John Adams scored 20 first-half points..

    The host Polar Bears scored their lone touchdown in the fourth quarter.

    PORT CLINTON 55, WAITE 6

    PORT CLINTON — The host Redskins scored 35 points in the first quarter en route to a victory over the Indians.

    Port Clinton led 49-6 at halftime.

    Waite travels to Southview and Port Clinton is at Rossford on Friday night.

    CLAY 38, SANDUSKY 21

    SANDUSKY— Mason Heintschel completed 22 of 35 passes for 293 yards and four touchdowns.

    Clay took the lead for good late in the second quarter when Heintschel completed a 37-yard touchdown pass to Landon Eversman. In the second half, Eversman scored on a 2-yard touchdown run and a 20-yard pass from Heintschel.

    Heintschel ran for 119 yards on 15 carries as Clay racked up 491 yards of total offense. Brodi Ostrander caught 13 passes for 125 yards and a score.
