MONROE — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is warning people of a scam in which the caller tells an individual they missed a court date and now have a bench warrant with a sizeable bond.

The flimflam artist, posing as a deputy, then tries to entice a payment out of the victim. Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough’s office stressed it would never contact someone by phone, or via social media, concerning a missed court date. It also would never solicit a “bond” payment over the phone.

Anyone who has provided the scammer with sensitive banking or personal information is encouraged to contact Monroe County Central Dispatch at 734-243-7070 to file a report.
