    High school football: Grace throws for 414 yards in Toledo Christian’s opener

    ADRIAN — Toledo Christian quarterback Tyler Grace threw for 414 yards and five touchdowns as the visiting Eagles cruised to a 41-7 season-opening victory against Lenawee Christian in 8-man football.

    Karter Koester was on the receiving end of three TD passes from Grace, and racked up 212 yards on five catches. Josiah Hillrich caught three passes for 146 yards and a pair of scores for the Eagles, who will play at Bowsher against Northpoint Christian from Grand Rapids, Mich., on Sept. 6.

    WHITEFORD 35, BLISSFIELD 6

    OTTAWA LAKE — Host Whiteford scored four first-half touchdowns en route to a season-opening victory over Blissfield.

    Whiteford travels to Ida on Sept. 6, while Blissfield goes to Tecumseh.

    ERIE MASON 28, FLINT NEW STANDARD 6

    ERIE, Mich. — Logan Goodin had three touchdown runs and 172 of the Eagles’ 251 rushing yards on 19 carries in the season opener.

    Teammate Aiden Cannon finished with nine carries for 57 yards and a TD, as well as a reception for 16 yards. Mason’s Michael Narew completed three of nine passes for 58 yards, giving the Eagles 309 total yards for the game. Narew also connected with Bowie Jacobs for a 2-point conversion. Goodin added a conversion run to his point total.

    Leroy Cuykendall contributed an interception for the Eagles, who play at Dundee on Sept. 6.
