    Sylvania school board to interview 8 for open position

    The Sylvania Board of Education received 36 applications for the open seat left by Jill Johnson, who was appointed township trustee Aug. 8.

    The board spent the better part of its meeting Wednesday evening whittling down the applicant pool to eight candidates.

    According to Superintendent Veronica Motley, those eight people have been selected to be interviewed next week. The mix of applicants includes university and college professors, a police officer, and an attorney.

    “This was a very strong pool of candidates,” Ms. Motley said. “The quantity of applicants demonstrates just how many folks want to help lead the district on behalf of the children and this community.”

    The eight to be interviewed are:

    ● John Beck, an adjunct instructor with Lourdes University.

    ● Steve Deutschman, a Sylvania Township police officer.

    ● Daniel Boden, a professor at the University of Toledo

    ● Eli Boldt, an attorney and assistant general counsel for Bowling Green State Universit.

    ● Jen Pollard, administrative support with USI Insurance Services.

    ● Montissa “Tisha” Mays, a professor at UT.

    ● Jeffrey Quigg, a buyer for Ford Motor Co.

    ● McKenna Reitz, an author and speaker with McKenna Reitz LLC.

    Tammy Lavalette, board president, said the board hopes to interview people on Wednesday is still making arrangements to set the day and times with the candidates.

    Ms. Lavalette went through the same process in 2021 when she was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the board.

    “I really was both surprised and pleased by the number of and the quality of the candidates,” Ms. Lavalette said. “We are inviting people for interviews now, so it will be a quick process. We only had 30 days to fill the seat, so we have to appoint someone by the 18th.”

    Other applicants for the position included;

    ● Adam Fishwick, a general manager at Planet Fitness.

    ● Allison Wilson, director of health care and recruiter at Manpower Inc. Toledo.

    ● Andrea Crum, guest experience specialist at V/O Med Spa.

    ● Bradley Menard, with Owens Community College.

    ● Emilee Harvey, head of customer success at Datavant

    ● Deion Webley, YouTuber with Studio 71/Poptoonstv.

    ● Brandon Balogh, who works in public health.

    ● Tracie Dawson-Pratt, manager of benefits administration for Promedica Health System.

    ● Timothy Melroy, health-care food service management andregional manager with Sodexo Healthcare.

    ● Steven Fulweber, teacher at Toledo Public Schools’ Jones Leadership Academy of Business.

    ● Stephanie Elvey, financial officer with the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Development Center.

    ● Shirley Powell, a retired case manager.

    ● Sean Pawlowski, global account sales engineer for Cognex Corp.

    ● Sarah Huffman, mechanical engineering technician with First Solar.

    ● Ryan Rose, a software developer.

    ● Pamela Jo Haynam, a consultant with Haynam Consulting LLC.

    ● Natalie Morgan, an educator at Notre Dame Academy.

    ● Michael Quick, finance director at SP Plus/Metropolis Technologies.

    ● Michael Garber, business representative for Sheet Metal Workers Local 33.

    ● Michael Cook, operations manager for Nature Fresh Farms Sales Inc.

    ● Matthew Langwell, principal cloud solution architect with BASF.

    Lalit Sangtani, who listed no occupation.

    ● Kimberly Welch, who is self-employed.

    ● JonMarie Morris, human resources/education with Imagination Station.

    ● John T. Ross, financial planner with Integrated Financial Resources Inc.

    ● Joann Daniels, who listed no occupation.

    ● Jeff Green, chief strategy officer with Gross Electric.

    ● Gail Bishop, a retired secondary education teacher.

    “I am looking forward to working with and welcoming our new board member,” Ms. Motley said.
