DEFIANCE — The Van Buren girls golf team won by 30 strokes ahead of the next highest team to claim the title at the Division II sectional tournament at Auglaize Golf Course on Tuesday.

The Black Knights were victorious by collectively shooting a 342, while Wayne Trace took second with a 372 total. Patrick Henry’s girls came in third with 382. The top three teams move on to the district tournament next week.

Rounding out the scoring for the Black Knights were Lauren Hibbard, who shot 89, and Grace Webster and Jordan Patton, who both carded 92. After Nelson for the Patriots, Elise Wyandt shot 97, Taylor Shawber 102, and Haylee Haas 106.

There were also three individuals that qualified for the district not on a qualifying team. Those spots went to North Central’s Sophie Eustice, who took third (86), Fairview’s Natalie Timbrook, who finished fifth (87), and Stryker’s Kennedy Morr (88).
