    Special Events: East Side comes alive with River East Mural and Art Festival

    Get over to the East Side on Saturday from noon until midnight for the River East Mural and Art Festival, featuring live mural painting, live music, vendors, and food trucks. The festival operates out of River East Gallery at 601 Main St., but the festival will cover the entire area of 6th and Main streets. For more information, visit facebook.com/RiverEastGallery.

    ■ Fall is here so start celebrating at the Vistula Neighbors Fall Festival on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Glass City Metropark, located at 1505 Front St. Activities include everything from music, free food, and a rock wall, to bird watching and an explorer trolley.     ■ Don’t miss Waterville’s ultimate party with the Roche de Boeuf Festival on Saturday in downtown Waterville. The famous Roche de Boeuf parade kicks off at 10 a.m. on Farnsworth Street at Michigan Street. The parade will proceed east onto Farnsworth to River Road and onto Waterwork Park.     ■ The Toledo Symphony’s 86th season will open Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Toledo Museum of Art’s Peristyle with a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. The piece, which will be performed at the Peristyle for the first time since 2011, is known for its “Ode to Joy” sequence and will be paired with Samy Moussa’s Elysium for Orchestra.     ■ Prepare to have your senses dazzled at the downright delicious new exhibit at the Detroit Institute of Arts, The Art of Dining: Food Culture in the Islamic World , running now through Jan. 5. The 230 piece exhibit includes works and artifacts from the Middle East, Egypt, Central, South, and East Asia, and Europe. The collection examines the connection between art and cuisine from ancient civilizations to today’s world. Detroit Institute of Arts is located at 5200 Woodward Ave. in Detroit.
