    High school boys golf: Ottawa Hills, Van Buren, Pettisville, and Napoleon all win sectional titles

    With three scores in the low 70s, Ottawa Hills fired a team score of 305 to pick up a Division II boys golf section title at Eagle’s Landing in Oregon on Thursday.

    Yale Feniger finished an even-par round (72) for the Green Bears and tied for the lowest score of the tournament with Isaac Ewersen of Genoa. Genoa (317) took second during the tournament that featured many area schools.

    Charlie Swigart (73) and Walker Peterson (74) also went low for OH, while Cooper Friedman and Jack Jorgensen each fired solid rounds of 86.

    Caleb Klatt shot a 79, Alex Large finished with an 82, and Colby Ralston carded an 84 to round out the Comets’ scorecard along with Ewersen’s medalist performance.

    Swanton (334) took third to also advance to next week’s district round. The Bulldogs were paced by Mazin Rukieh’s round of 79. Adam Lemon and Dylan Smigelski each finished with 83s, while Brady O’Shea shot an 89.

    Delta’s Lane Lopez (73), Archbold’s Grady Short (74), Eastwood’s Parker Bengry (78), and Bryan’s Kai Dauber (79) all were individual qualifiers from the sectional.

    Eastwood (fourth place) and Delta (fifth) missed out on advancing by just three strokes to Swanton as both teams shot scores of 337.

    SCHROEDER LEADS VAN BUREN TO D-III SECTIONAL TITLE

    ARLINGTON, Ohio — Van Buren freshman Jake Schroeder carded a four-under 68 and the Black Knights shot a team score of 301 to win the Division III sectional golf tournament at Sycamore Springs Golf Course.

    Schroeder took home medalist by seven strokes, beating his teammate Tanner Bahn, who finished with a 3-over 75.

    Cole Bishop (77) and Isaac Dyer (81) rounded out the scores for Erik Heitkamp’s squad. Bishop took third place in the sectional.

    Carey took second with a team score of 350, while Arcadia (358) finished eight strokes behind the Blue Devils to take third place.

    The Redskins were led by Cree Kemenah’s round of 79. Owen Green (81), Aiden Cline (89), and Caden Reinhart (109) also scored for Arcadia.

    PETTISVILLE TAKES HOME D-III SECTIONAL TITLE

    Led by Jack Leppelmeier’s one-over 73 round, Pettisville was able claim a Division III sectional title at Ironwood Golf Course in Wauseon on Thursday with a team total of 314.

    Montpelier (323) and Defiance Tinora (338) took second and third, respectively.

    Liberty Center came up short during the tournament, shooting a team score of 347 to take fourth place.

    Leppelmeier took medalist for the Blackbirds with his score, fending off Montpelier’s Owen Sommer, who shot a 75.

    Pettisville’s Creighton Aeschliman (76), Connor Elliot (78), and Gabe Knierim (87) all helped bring home the sectional title.

    Kenneth Smeltzer (77), Joel Saneholtz (82), and Malachi Smeltzer (89), along with Sommer’s round, completed the scoring for the Locomotives.

    Evergreen freshman Hayden Timbrook’s round of 82 was good enough to qualify as an individual. Emmanuel Christian’s Samuel Kutz and Daniel Donovan each qualified as well after each finishing the day with an 84.

    Kutz, Donovan, and Maumee Valley Country Day’s Cranston Bannister faced each other in a one-hole playoff to determine the final two individual qualifiers.

    Kutz birdied, Donovan parred, and Bannister was unable to keep pace, ending his season.

    NAPOLEON WINS D-II SECTIONAL BY 1 STROKE

    OTTAWA, Ohio — Cohen Ford’s round of 74 helped pace Napoleon to a Division II section title at Moose Landing.

    The Wildcats (316) finished just one stroke ahead of Ottawa-Glandorf. St. Marys Memorial (321) finished in third place.

    Alex Lavin (79), Sean Lavin (81), and Brock Bockelman (82) helped Ford bring home the title for Napoleon.

    Liberty-Benton (338) took sixth place and did not advance as a team to the district tournament, but junior Andrew Tomlinson’s round of 78 got him through as an individual qualifier.

    OLD FORT TAKES THIRD AT GREEN HILLS

    CLYDE, Ohio — Evan Combs shot a five-over 76 and led Old Fort into the Division III district tournament after the Stockaders finished with a team score of 342 during the sectional round at Green Hills Golf Course.

    Huron (331) and Sandusky St. Mary (332) took first and second, respectively.

    Ryan Adelsperger (77), Cole Bender (93), and Colten Hoerin (96) each scored for OF.

    Danbury’s Tyler Harris (82) was the area’s lone individual qualifier, winning a one-hole playoff against Norwalk St. Paul’s Gavin Thurston.
