Blue Pacific Grill has survived many events in its history.

According to owner Kirk Falknor, actually being around for 20 years is almost a miracle.

Mr. Falknor and his wife, Becky, were living in Greenville, Ohio, when they first heard about the establishment.

Our kids, Brandon Falknor and Kasey Moon, were at Bowling Green State University when this place opened,” Mr. Falknor said. “They both were working here and told me how much they loved it. My wife and I ended up buying it through the Wood County court. Eighteen years later we are still going strong and still loving the business.”

Thanks to their kids helping them run the business, the restaurant has become a family operation. The Falknor family has helped this Perrysburg staple, located at 4150 Levis Commons Blvd. in Perrysburg, weather the economic crash of 2009 as well as the recent pandemic.

Their daughter, Jessica Necessary, runs social media for the restaurant. Ms. Moon now works in business development for Sunshine Communities and their Maumee establishment Georgette’s Grounds & Gifts,”

“We serve their coffee and also sell some here,” Mr. Falknor said. “Starting November 1 we will be collecting toys for ProMedica children’s hospital. We also do fund-raisers with Perrysburg and Maumee schools and BGSU. We try to give back to the community that supported us through everything. We want to give back to say ‘thank you.’”

Mr. Falknor said the restaurant can best be described as a create-your-own Pan-Asian stir fry.

“We offer two different bowl sizes as well as an all-you-can-eat option,” he said. “We also have a children’s menu. People get to choose their proteins, vegetables, starches, seasonings, and sauces. It really is your masterpiece in the end.”

Protein options include chicken, beef tips, sliced beef, shrimp, salmon, and tofu. Ahi tuna and crawfish can also be had for $4 more.

Vegetables, seasonings and 18 different sauces, coupled with a choice of rice, several types of noodles, including zucchini and sweet potato noodles, can all be added to the bowl. Tortillas. pita bread, lettuce wrap, and spring mix are also available.

“You give all of your ingredients to the chefs, and they will grill it all for you,” Mr. Falknor said. “For those who are first-time visitors, our servers and the chefs can help them through the process and can give diners a taste of different sauces.”

Josh and Kim Watts, along with their son Patrick, all enjoyed their experience.

“We have been here a few times and just loves being able to try different bowls,” Mr. Watts said. “Pat likes to pick out his own food and have them cook it. For a 6-year-old he is really enjoying a wide range of food and trying new things.”

Mr. Falknor said they also cater to special dietary needs like vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and those following keto. They also will help those with food allergies.

“All someone has to do is tell us they have an allergy, and we work with them,” he explained. “We have stoves in the back where the food can be cooked separately.”

Blue Pacific is also well known for its custom drink menu and dessert menu that includes its famous towering carrot cake.

Blue Pacific is holding a 20th anniversary celebration 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Hero's Party Experience will be doing kids’ face painting. Georgette's Grounds & Gifts will have a coffee cart with samples. Blue Pacific will have samples of some of its desserts, door prizes, raffles, and tastings of fall and Halloween-inspired cocktails, Mr. Falknor said.

“Diners will also receive a 10 percent discount card to use on their next visit,” he said. “We are looking forward to celebrating this milestone with the community.”

Blue Pacific is open noon to 8 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The restaurant is closed on Mondays.
