Connecticut is making big claims with its new highway signs welcoming visitors to the state.

Gov. Ned Lamont shared the new signs on social media Wednesday, which include mentions of the state's prevalence in basketball , pizza , submarines and New England food.

The signs are on highway routes around the state that head to Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York.

"These updated signs reflect our state pride, showcasing some of the best of what we do in Connecticut," Lamont said in the post.

Here's what the new signs say and where they are.

CT claims best pizza, basketball, submarines in new highway signs

Connecticut is not shying away from a bit of controversy with their neighboring state with their new welcome signs.

    Here's what the signs say:

    • "Welcome to Connecticut, home of the basketball capital of the world"
      • on I-91, I-84, and I-395 from MA
    • "Welcome to Connecticut, home of the pizza capital of the United States"
      • on I-95 and I-84 from NY
    • "Welcome to Connecticut, home of the submarine capital of the world"
      • on I-95 from RI
    • "Welcome to Connecticut. Stop for a bite in the foodie capital of New England"
      • US Route 6 from RI

The meaning behind CT's new highway signs on pizza, basketball, submarines

Connecticut's new highway welcome signs name the state as the capital of pizza, basketball, submarines and food in New England. Here's why state officials are making the claims.

    • New Haven pizza
      • The best pizza in the country is a debate as old as time, but a lot of people say it's right here in Connecticut. New Haven pizza has become known around the country, with spots like Sally's Apizza, Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana and Modern Apizza famous among locals and celebrities alike. That being said, New York with their famous New York Style Pizza might have something to say about the claim.
    • UConn basketball
      • There's no debating the University of Connecticut basketball program is dominant in college sport. The men's and women's programs have taken home NCAA tournament titles a combined 17 times, with the men's team winning just this year. UConn aside, Massachusetts with the dominant Boston Celtics teams and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame is likely to have a counterpoint.
    • US Navy submarines
      • Connecticut is home to a huge presence of the US Navy and its submarines, including the Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, which is the primary United States Navy East Coast submarine base. Groton is also home to The United States Navy Submarine Force Library and Museum. The primary builder of the US Navy's submarines, General Dynamics Electric Boat , also operates out of Groton.
    • New England food
      • Claiming the title of foodie capital of New England is certainly a major take, but Connecticut does have some unique popular dishes. The Connecticut-style warm and buttered lobster roll is popular in the region, and the state has some hamburger specialties, like the steamed cheeseburger. The Library of Congress also recognizes Louis' Lunch, a restaurant in New Haven, as the birthplace of the hamburger.
