    Welcome to the fourth installment of the 2024 fall season for the Vermont Varsity Insider Athletes of the Week voting by high school sports fans.

    This week, and every week during the sports seasons, members of the public may vote for a top girls athlete and a top boys athlete.

    How do I cast my vote?

    All voting is through the two ballots at burlingtonfreepress.com. We will not accept votes through email or through social media.

    Voting began Sept. 30, and continues through 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

    How do we learn who wins?

    The two winners will be announced in a story published at burlingtonfreepress.com on Friday.

    May I nominate a deserving athlete for a future ballot?

    Yes. Please nominate a Vermont high school by sending an email to sports@burlingtonfreepress.com (Subject Line: Athletes of the Week nomination).

    More on this week's candidates:

    Holley MacLellan, Milton soccer: The all-state midfielder struck for two goals and two assists in a 5-0 win over Middlebury, two goals and one helper in a 8-0 rout of Vergennes and the overtime winner in the Yellowjackets' 1-0 triumph over Mount Abraham.

    Rieanna Murray, Champlain Valley soccer: Murray capped CVU's 3-0 week with a hat trick in a 3-0 decision at Burlington on Saturday. She also had a goal and an assist in a 5-0 win over BFA-St. Albans and a one-goal, two-assist effort in a 5-0 victory over Mount Mansfield.

    Briley Rutledge, Harwood soccer: Rutledge powered the Highlanders to a 3-0 week that included a pair of hat-trick performances. She had two goals and two assists in a 6-0 win over Montpelier, three goals in a 5-0 decision over Thetford and then another three-goal effort in a 6-0 victory over Randolph.

    Payton Jo Vilmont, Colchester volleyball: The junior setter tallied an ace, 15 assists and two digs in a 3-0 victory over Randolph. She then recorded eight aces, 14 assists and a pair of digs as the Lakers bested Enosburg 3-1.

    Lia Walsh, Montpelier field hockey: Walsh had a hand in all three goals during a 2-0 week. She had a goal and an assist in a 2-0 triumph over Stowe, and then broke the stalemate in the fourth quarter of a 1-0 decision over U-32 as the Solons improved to 7-2.

    More on this week's candidates:

    Jack Dickerson, Poultney football: The running back totaled 229 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries to power the Blue Devils to a thrilling, 28-27 overtime victory over Springfield. Dickerson had TD rushes of 95, 48 and 65 yards before his 3-yard score was the difference in the extra period.

    Darius Pelton, BFA-Fairfax/Lamoille football: The junior racked up 255 yards and a trio of TDs on 15 carries, pushing the Bullets to a commanding, 48-14 victory over Spaulding. As a team, the Bullets ran for 440 yards.

    Colby Sterling-Proulx, Montpelier soccer: Sterling-Proulx started the week with a goal and an assist as Montpelier topped North Country 4-0. He then scored twice in a 5-0 decision over Thetford.

    Brycen Scharf, Harwood soccer: The junior midfielder supplied all the scoring in a 3-0 win over Thetford. He also added a pair of tallies as the Highlanders cruised past Lake Region 9-1 to run their record to 8-0-1.

    Derin Suren, Essex golf: The senior carded a 36 over nine holes at West Bolton Golf Club to earn medalist honors during a four-school match last week.
