Reborne Brewing Co. recently won top honors for the first time at a craft beer contest, making it the youngest company to win the award.

The “Dragon’s Blood Rye Double IPA” was named Best of Show at the Shaver Lake Brew Fest.

Reborne Brewing Co. was founded in 2018 by Ryan Parsley (CEO) and Cody Sturgis (chief operating officer). It originally began as a home brewery in Parsley’s garage, where he and Sturgis formulated many recipes over the last six years. In 2022, they rented a building in Clovis and are now trying to expand the business, armed with their first brewing contest win.

Parsley said one of the Shaver Lake Brewfest judges saw social media posts about their brewery, went to their business, tasted their beer and invited them to compete.

“It was a shock to us at first, but after we spoke with the judges and everything, they insisted that this was a very big deal for us,” said Parsley. “It helped us stand out and gave us a lot of recognition, and we’re very proud of our product that we pushed out.”

The Shaver Lake Brewfest was held on June 29, with tickets costing $40 and $50 and proceeds going to charity. Parsley said they competed with 18 other breweries.

Other participants included Firestone Walker Brewing Co., Two Ravens Brewing Co., Summer Fox Brewing Co., Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Co., South Gate Brewing Co., Sequoia Brewing Co., House of Pendragon Brewing Co. and more.

Parsley believes that the quality of their product speaks for itself.

“There are a lot of breweries out there and a lot of people making beer, but the one thing we stress ourselves on is the quality that we push out,” said Parsley. “So we’re gonna put out a ton of it because we’re focused on making sure that we only provide the best for our customers.”

In addition, they were given some friendly tips by the other brewers, such as what equipment to use.

Parsley said they bring their brews to many different events, such as a charity event at the Cat Haven. They plan to return to the Shaver Lake Brewfest next year with even more entries.

One of Parsley’s goals is to participate in the World Beer Cup, one of the biggest beer contests in the world.

“I definitely want to practice and prepare our company for something like that,” he said.

Reborne Brewing is also in the process of developing their first tap room at 1018 San Jose Ave. in Clovis at their brewery location. It’s schedule for a late fall opening.
