City launches grant program to improve small business security

The Fresno Chamber of Commerce partnered with the City of Fresno and the Fresno Police Department to launch a $100,000 grant program aimed at assisting small businesses upgrade security systems to combat crime.

The program — which will help local small businesses install or upgrade security cameras and systems — will officially launch with the presentation of the first grant to A&A Textiles on Tuesday.

“With the launch of this new Small Business Security Camera Rebate Program, Fresno City Council is not just taking action – we are standing firmly with our small businesses, who have weathered so much and continue to be the backbone of our community,” said Fresno City Council President Annalisa Perea. “By empowering businesses to enhance their security, we’re not only helping to deter crime but also fostering a sense of safety and partnership that will allow them to flourish.”

Businesses can apply for grant funding of up to $2,000 based on eligibility criteria. Businesses must be in good standing with the City of Fresno with a current up-to-date business license and must be located within the 2024 Qualified Census Tracts and Difficult Development Areas.

Security systems may be installed by individual business owners or outside companies, and must store recordings for no fewer than 72 hours, either locally or on the cloud. Priority will be given to businesses with fewer than 25 employees.

“As the two business owners on the City Council, I am honored to work with Council President Perea to provide greater peace of mind to an important sector of our local economy,” said Council Vice President Mike Karbassi.

Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis until funding is exhausted.
