The Caledonia Area girls came away with two tough wins over both the Onalaska Hilltoppers and a rematch against the Winona Cotter Ramblers. The Warriors won against Onalaska 63-49 and 65-57 against the Ramblers.

The Warriors faced off against the Hilltoppers on Monday, Jan. 29 at Caledonia High School. Though the lady Warriors won the tipoff, Onalaska immediately went on a 12-0 run to start the game.

Onalaska started off with really big energy, and it was pretty apparent that Caledonia needed to match them to have a chance.

Josie Foster (No. 4) scored on a drive to the hoop and nailed the subsequent free throw for the first points of the half at the 13th minute.

The Warriors would get back to within 7 at the 10:30 mark, but Onalaska would pull ahead even further at 9-21 at 7:30. Things looked rough at the 3:00 minute mark, with the Warriors down 19-32 – but the Warriors persevered and began to climb back.

After getting to 24-32 at the minute mark, the ladies climbed back off of a big three by Aubrie Klug (No. 3), a steal by Kensey King (No. 11) then layup by Josie Foster.

At the end of the first half, the score was 31-34 with the Hilltoppers leading, but Caledonia had shown that they were up to the task.

The second half saw both teams start slow, with neither team scoring until three minutes into the half. Aubrie Klug started the scoring in the second half with a three pointer at 15:00.

The 3-point shooting picked up in the second half for the lady Warriors, as Josie Foster hit another big three at 14:00. Regan King was able to give the Warriors their first lead of the night by making the layup and getting fouled on the shot. Her free throw in helped make it 40-37.

At this point, the Warriors' defense and long range shooting took precedence, as they never gave up the lead again in the second half.

The Warriors' zone defense worked well to stymie the Onalaska shooting, as they went pretty cold in the second half.

Final score for the game – 63-49 and a win for the Warriors. Top scorers for this game include Aubrie Klug with 27 points, Josie Foster with 22 points, and Regan King (No. 13) with 7 points.

The girls basketball squad also traveled to Winona Cotter to face off against the Ramblers on Friday, Feb. 2.

The Winona Ramblers have a good squad that beat the Warriors earlier in the year, so the Warriors were looking for redemption. Redemption was achieved as the Warriors would win this matchup by a score of 65-57.

The girls basketball team will face off against Minnehaha Academy at home on Tuesday, Feb. 6, and then will face off against Fillmore Central at home on Feb. 8.
