Carroll track sweeps district meet

Carroll County athletes won seven individual events plus two relay races as the Cavaliers swept a Three Rivers District track meet May 8 in Stuart.

The sweep now gives Carroll’s boys four meet victories on the season and the Lady Cavaliers three as head coach Shawn Montgomery says the team is looking strong heading into regional action. Davis Reitzel had a huge day for the Carroll boys, winning both the 300 meter hurdles (43.52 seconds) and the long jump (19-feet, 2-inches). Reitzel also teamed with Samuel Collins, Noah Manning and Elias Sample to claim victory in the 4x400 relay race (4:01.61).

Brendan Farris and Nathanael Dalton also won events for Carroll’s boys. Farris won the high jump (5-feet, 2-inches) and Dalton earned a meet title in the triple jump (38-feet, 10-inches). Carroll took another relay race in the boys’ 4x100 with Mohammad Monsour, Farris, Collins and Casen Love finishing in 51.16 seconds.

As a team, Carroll finished with 116 points on the boys side to edge Patrick County (113). James River (84) was third, followed by Glenvar (25) and Radford (24).

Winning events for the Lady Cavaliers were Savannah Swecker in the 100 hurdles (19.4 seconds), Amelia Forsyth in the 1600 meter run (7:15.87) and Corrie Delp in the 200 meter dash (29.94 seconds). Carroll girls won the meet title with 122 points, followed by James River (101), Patrick County (54), Glenvar (25) and Radford (10).
