Carroll lady netters defeat Galax

Carroll County’s girls’ tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over Galax in non-district action Thursday.

Emma Vernon and Erika McKenzie won easily at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, defeating their Galax opponents by 8-0 scores. Alexis Boatman continued the momentum at the No. 3 seed, where she delivered an 8-2 victory. Khloe Akers also blanked her Maroon Tide foe, winning 8-0 at No. 4 singles. Maiya Caudill suffered the only loss for the Cavaliers at the No. 5 seed, falling 8-5, but Tiffany Cruise rounded out singles action with an 8-0 triumph at No. 6.

Carroll County also swept doubles action with Vernon and McKenzie teaming for an 8-0 win at No. 1. Boatman and Akers claimed an 8-6 victory at No. 2, while Caudill and Cruise prevailed 8-2 at No. 3.
