Berrier, Lyons lead Cavalier comeback at Pulaski

Britt Berrier and Maddox Lyons both were key figures in Carroll County’s come-from-behind 5-4 non-district baseball victory May 13 over Pulaski County in Dublin.

Lyons went 3-for-4 at the plate, but he also picked up the win on the mound, coming on in relief with two outs in the fourth inning. Lyons gave up one run and five hits, striking out two in 3.1 innings to earn the victory. Berrier, meanwhile, went 3-for-4 with an RBI in addition to scoring the winning run in the top of the sixth inning.

Lyons got Carroll County (13-4, 6-4 Three Rivers District) on the board in the third inning after ripping a two-out single and stealing second base. Lyons then scored on Avery Hart’s RBI single for a 1-0 lead.

Pulaski countered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, an inning in which the Cougars slapped five base hits. The Cavaliers got a run back in the top of the fifth. Cody Reece tagged a two-out double, moved up on a Lyons single and scored to trim the deficit to 3-2.

Pulaski countered with a run in the bottom half of the fifth. Berrier came up big for Carroll in the sixth. After Slade Quesenberry drew a leadoff walk and Mason Crockett singled, Berrier singled to left to plate Quesenberry. Crockett came around to score on the play following a Pulaski error, tying the contest at 4-all. Nicholson’s double to center then scored Berrier to put the Cavs up 5-4.

Throwing in relief, Lyons gave up a double to open the seventh and final inning, but retired the next three batters to end the threat and the game.

Hart went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Carroll. Nicholson, Reece, Crockett and Camden DeHaven each added a hit in the win.
