The Carroll County School Board honored the late Phillip Berrier’s legacy of compassion and passion for the education of Carroll County students during its September 10 regular meeting with members of Berrier’s family, former co-workers and board members present.

A remembrance ceremony with candles accompanied a formal reading of the resolution. Pastor Israel Easter opened the ceremony with prayer, lifting up following Berrier’s example and being a servant making sure everyone counts. The resolution honoring Berrier was approved unanimously by the board with members taking turns reading.

“We want to take a few minutes to celebrate his life... Phillip Berrier was a dedicated member of the Carroll County School Board. He served with unwavering commitment and common sense leadership and integrity. Whereas Phillip Berrier was a devoted family man known for his love and support of his family and for the values he imparted to his loved ones,” read Chairman Brian Spencer.

Vice Chair Jennifer Sowers continued with “Whereas Phillip Berrier was a passionate community advocate tirelessly working to improve the lives of those around him through his leadership and development of the Lambsburg Community Center, its fundraising efforts and his work with community church.”

“Whereas Phillip Berrier’s dedication and passionate leadership have left an indelible mark on the Fancy Gap District of the Carroll County School Board and the greater district it serves his absence is deeply felt by all who knew him,” said Board Member Abigail Burnette.

Board Member Alvin Davidson said, “Whereas Phillip Berrier’s efforts and contributions to the Carroll County School Board as both a former educator, school board member was marked by a genuine desire to bolster equal educational opportunities, promote community well-being and support growth and development opportunities.”

The measure expressed the board’s profound sorrow at Berrier’s passing, and extended heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones, honored him for exceptional service to the board and the broader community, and acknowledged the lasting impact made through his tireless efforts. The resolution will also be included in the official minutes of the board.

“The Carroll County School Board shall memorialize Phillip W. Berrier’s legacy through the donation of a memorial plaque and a monetary contribution to the Lambsburg Community Center in recognition of his significant contributions and the inspiration he provided to all who knew him,” said Spencer.
