(The Center Square) – Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs will be joining the seven other women Democratic governors in Chicago next week at the Democratic National Convention. All eight women will be participating in a panel discussion on Wednesday, Aug. 21 that will be moderated by award-winning actress, producer and activist Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

“Governor Hobbs is looking forward to joining a panel with the country’s eighth democratic female governors on Aug. 21,” Hobbs’ office told The Center Square. “She’s excited to discuss how they’re delivering for their states, lowering costs, fighting for reproductive rights, and protecting democracy.”

According to a press release from the Democratic Governors Association, the women will be discussing their roles as Democratic governors and the DGA Women Governors Fund. The fund is the first and only fundraising initiative dedicated to electing female Democratic governors.

“While women running for office have seen historic levels of investment at the federal level, the DGA has been working hard to close the gap in investment at the state level and successfully elect women executives in critical governor’s races,” reads a DGA press release from Dec. 4, 2023, when the current chair of the fund, Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey became chair.

Since 2018, the DGA invested over $80 million in campaigns to elect female Democratic governors. A record-number of eight U.S. women governors were elected in 2022.

The other governors who will be present at the panel to discuss female political leadership will include Healey, Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly, Maine Gov. Janet Mills, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek.

Louis-Dreyfus is well-known for her role playing a female vice president in the TV series “Veep,” and has been chosen to moderate this discussion due to her activism and alignment with female Democratic values, according to the DGA.

Louis-Dreyfus said that she is “honored” to have been selected to host this conversation.

“Throughout their time in office, Democratic women governors have made history, changed the conversation surrounding women in executive roles, and gotten big things done for the good people of their states,” Louis-Dreyfus said in the news release. “They’ve shattered marble ceilings and demonstrated excellent leadership. Their voices are essential. I’m looking forward to our conversation and the opportunity to shine the spotlight on these accomplished leaders.”
