(The Center Square) – Democrat Davis Scott has served in the U.S. House of Representatives for Georgia’s more than two decades.

Republican Jonathan Chavez is the challenger in the 13th Congressional District this year and believes his plan can succeed.

Scott’s tagline while in office has been “delivering real results.” He prioritizes health care, veterans and gun safety.

Chavez said the district , and the nation, needs new leadership to achieve “change for the better.” He calls for “reforming education,” “criminal justice reform,” and “securing our borders.”

Scott, who took office in 2003, faced six challengers in the spring primary. He won with just over 50% of the vote, while his campaign donations swelled by just over $1 million.

Yet, he spent $1.3 million, ending with just $260,000 on hand. This is according to campaign finance reports from the Federal Election Commission. According to the FEC, the financial status of Chavez' campaign is all zeroes .

Scott said he is motivated to serve the people in his district, which is located in the suburbs of Atlanta.

“I am who I am, because a lot of folks saw something in me and gave me a helping hand. I wanted to repay that debt and politics is where I can help a lot of people,” his campaign website said .

Chavez said that education must return to “basic fundamentals,” immigration and economic reforms are critical for a “better future,” and that Americans must be ensured “medical autonomy” over “blanket mandates that could harm many Americans.”

Scott boasts of over $1 billion federal dollars secured for his district. In the last week, he voted against the U.S. House Resolution condemning the Biden administration for its handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal.

Chavez has been endorsed by the Georgia Right to Life and the Georgia Police Benevolent Association.

While the district has shifted since the last election, following statewide redistricting, Scott is still favored to win.

In 2022, Scott won the election with over 80% of the vote. This was slightly more than the margin he won by in 2020.
