Isaiah 13–14 In these passages, Isaiah prophesies that Babylon will be destroyed, and that this destruction symbolizes what will happen to those who fight against God's people or focus on worldly things. Isaiah also compares the king of Babylon to Lucifer, or Satan. Revelation 18 In this passage, God promises to punish Babylon for its wickedness by burning the city with fire. The kings of the earth mourn Babylon's demise and keep their distance as it burns.  Babylon is also condemned in Scripture for its idolatry and blasphemy in other passages, including Jeremiah 7:18 and Ezekiel 8:14. In Revelation, Babylon is also used figuratively to represent all self-centered governments, businesses, and religions in the world.  Even if Babylon reaches the sky and fortifies her lofty stronghold, I will send destroyers against her," declares the LORD. "The sound of a cry comes from Babylon, the sound of great destruction from the land of the Babylonians. The LORD will destroy Babylon; he will silence her noisy din. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons.
