Jones, Green lead Billingsley to win over Autaugaville
Billingsley High School bounced back in a big way from their loss one week ago with a 42-12 win over Autaugaville High School on Sept. 22. Quarterback Landon Jones managed the game well on offense for the Bears going 7-for-11 for 192 yards and three touchdowns, and accounting for 92 yards on 10 rushes and a touchdown on the ground.
Verbena comes up just short at Central-Hayneville
After its first win last week, Verbena High School came up just short on the road at Central High School, Hayneville on Sept. 22 losing 28-20. “You know, I really thought we had made some strides last week, unfortunately I felt like we were looking for an excuse last night,” Verbena head coach Allen Brothers said. “We could not seem to keep the positive mindset and just key players that need to be leaders almost at times are rejecting that role.”
Maplesville throttles Calhoun in first road game
Maplesville High School left no doubt early in its first road game of 2023 against Calhoun High School posting a 38-0 first quarter to ease to a 60-7 win on Sept. 22. Maplesville’s first quarter eruption was spurred by Jay Lagrone who ran for three touchdowns in the opening frame. Lagrone piled up 98 rushing yards and three scores while the Red Devils as a whole ran for 194 yards with three different players getting into the end zone.
Rebels mount comeback over Central Coosa
