St. Joseph baseball hires Tanner Moulder, replacing state championship coach Gerard McCall

St. Joseph Catholic has hired Tanner Moulder as its next baseball coach, the school announced on Monday.

Moulder, 31, replaces Gerard McCall, who went 223-107 in 10 seasons at St. Joseph and won an MHSAA Class 2A state title in 2018. The announcement did not address why McCall was no longer the coach.

"I've heard great things about it. It's a great place to work, to coach and a good community," Moulder said. "I just think that it's a great fit for me personally and my family. It's an overall great match of what I'm looking for in my career. I think that I can help St. Joe as much as they can help me."

This is Moulder's first head coaching position, and he has been a pitching coach at two Mississippi high schools. Moulder had his first stint at Terry as its pitching coach for three seasons starting in 2017, then held the same position at Ridgeland for the past five seasons.

Moulder felt like he was in the perfect position once he walked through the doors at St. Joseph Catholic High School.

"It just had that feeling of, this is where I'm supposed to be," Moulder said. "As soon as I sat down in the interview. I just knew it was the right place to be."

St. Joseph finished the 2024 season 14-22 and lost in the first round of the MAIS Class 6A baseball playoffs against Hartfield Academy.

"We're a team that's gonna work hard to develop over the course of the year," he said. "We play in a tough district, but each day we're gonna go out and compete as hard as we can compete, put a good product on the field for the fans and the community."
