Belhaven University launches pre-law degree program for students seeking legal careers

Officials with Belhaven University announced Tuesday a pre-law degree program aimed at preparing students for "successful careers in law and related fields."

Officials said the Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Law program combines courses from "various disciplines to foster a holistic understanding" of the legal field. The university said students will be "well-prepared" through the program for the Law School Admission Test and law school admissions.

According to officials, the pre-law program also "opens doors" to graduate studies and employment in legal-adjacent careers.

“Our new Pre-Law program is a significant addition to Belhaven University’s academic offerings,” Belhaven University Provost Audrey Kelleher said in a Tuesday news release. “We have designed a curriculum that not only prepares students for the rigors of law school but also provides a well-rounded education that integrates public relations, intercultural communication, and criminal justice, all taught from a Christian worldview.”

Officials said the program would equip graduates with skills that are valuable in business, criminal justice and other humanities fields.

“A Pre-Law degree from Belhaven is more than just preparation for law school — it’s an investment in a student’s future, providing a strong foundation in critical thinking, communication, and ethical reasoning,” Kelleher said in the press release. “Our graduates will be well-prepared to make a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.”

Belhaven University’s new pre-law program is now accepting applications for the upcoming academic year.
