Vote for Clarion Ledger Jackson Metro Student of the Week Sept. 8-14

The Clarion Ledger's Jackson Metro Student of the Week feature highlights the outstanding achievements of local high school students, academic and beyond.

Each week, you can vote for one winner out of five nominees.

Read about this week's nominees and then vote in the poll below. The poll will close Thursday at noon. Winners will be announced on Friday morning each week.

Each person can cast a vote once per hour per device.

Nominees

Jailynn Sanders: Sanders is a senior at Provine High School who was determined to keep her grades at an “A” during the second semester of her junior year. After complications with her colon, Sanders was rushed into surgery, induced into a coma for seven days and stayed in the hospital for a month. She still maintained all of her duties as cheer captain and student body vice president and received honor roll with all A’s.

Kris "Ryan" Rhodes: Kris Rhodes, who goes by Ryan, is a senior at Murrah High School and a sophomore in the Jackson Middle College Program at Jackson State University. Rhodes earned a perfect score on the PSAT and a 35 on the ACT. He also successfully passed the Core Math Praxis Exam.  In addition to his academic success, he is currently attending a dual-enrollment program at Jackson State University pursuing a math education degree. His humble attitude and exemplary leadership skills make him a role model for his peers, both in the classroom and beyond.

Hattie Tillman: Tillman is senior at Madison-Ridgeland Academy with a passion for healthcare. Aspiring to attend nursing school, she gained valuable experience last year by shadowing three clinicians and assisting in various medical procedures including hysterectomies, a c-section and patient intubation. As a leader in the biomedical classroom, she consistently participates and supports her classmates.

Ally Young: As the 11th grade class president of Pisgah High School, Young showcases exceptional leadership and commitment, enhancing school community through her active involvement in the National Honor Society, Beta Club and FCA Leadership. Her dedication to both academics and athletics is evident in her roles on the varsity volleyball and softball teams. Additionally, Young's contributions to Rankin Youth Leadership, Jackson Sub Deb and her role as a Pinelake 56 Small Group co-leader highlight her ability to balance multiple responsibilities.

Avery Power: Power, a senior at Brandon High School, is the captain of the Brandon volleyball team and an honor student in the health sciences program. In addition to her athletic and academic achievements, she actively contributes to the school community as a member of the yearbook staff, a Diamond Girl and a chair for Beauty and Beau. Recognized as a Clarion Ledger Player of the Week nominee , a MAC All-Star and an MHSAA 7A Scholar Athlete, Power has committed to continuing her volleyball career at Mississippi State University next year.
