    Mike Williams commits to Jackson State basketball, will play for father Mo Williams

    Jackson State men's basketball landed a close-to-home recruit on Sunday.

    Mike Williams , son of JSU men's basketball coach Mo Williams, will play for his father in college, announcing his commitment to the Tigers.

    Mike Williams posted on his Instagram account: "As I write this, I am most thankful in the universe and my spirit guides for putting the right pieces in front of me to be successful. I want to thank everyone who was a part of my journey up to this point! and to all my haters, doubters and overlookers, you all are my why. We finna go turn a HBCU up."

    Mike Williams, a 6-foot, 160-pound combo guard, is a three-star recruit, according to 247Sports Composite and the No. 2 player in Mississippi in the Class of 2025.

    Mike Williams helped lead Jackson Academy to a 36-1 record, a MAIS Class 6A state title and a MAIS overall title during the 2023-24 season, when he averaged 18.8 points and 6.7 rebounds.

    He announced in July he would transfer to Germantown in MHSAA Class 7A with his brother Mason Williams. They will team up with center Sam Funches , the No. 3 center in the Class of 2026.

    Mo Williams was selected in the second round of the 2003 NBA draft with the 47th overall pick by the Utah Jazz and played 15 seasons in the NBA for nine teams. He averaged 13.2 points and 4.9 in 818 games played.

    JSU (15-17, SWAC 11-7) ended its 2023-24 season in the first round of the SWAC Tournament after a loss to Texas Southern 73-62.
