    United Way of Forsyth County sets up donation site for Helene disaster relief

    WINSTON-SALEM — United Way of Forsyth County, working in conjunction with community partners, churches, businesses and other organizations, is acting as a drop-off location for Hurricane Helene disaster relief supplies. Donations will be accepted through Oct. 31 at 301 N. Main Street (Winston Tower/Truliant Center) in downtown Winston-Salem. The drop-off hours are Monday through Thursday between noon and 5 p.m.

    Organizations interested in donating supplies should call the United Way at 336-721-9300 for directions and instructions prior to drop off.

    “The impact of Hurricane Helene has been devastating to western North Carolina,” United Way of Forsyth County President and CEO Antonia Monk Richburg said. “The need for supplies and support for disaster relief efforts will extend well beyond the first week or two. We are happy to act as a collection site for supplies to help facilitate the process. Working together, we can help our neighbors in need.”

    Needed items include:

    Food/beverage

    • Bottled water
    • Gatorade
    • Hydration powder packets
    • Plastic utensils

    Personal care, toiletries, hygiene

    • Feminine hygiene products
    • First aid kits
    • Hand sanitizer and sanitizer wipes
    • Incontinence pads
    • Toothbrushes
    • Toothpaste

    Baby items

    • Baby formula/food
    • Baby wipes
    • Diapers

    Clothing

    • Coats and winter wear
    • Socks—all sizes (unopened)

    Cleaning supplies

    • Bleach (bottles, spray, wipes)
    • Brooms
    • Dish soap
    • Heavy-duty work gloves
    • Paper towels
    • Shovels
    • Trash bags (13 gallon or contractor bags)

    Miscellaneous

    • Batteries
    • Bug spray
    • Coolers
    • Disposable gloves
    • First aid supplies
    • Flashlights
    • Gas cans
    • Matches and lighters
    • Individual or small bags of pet food for dogs and cats
    • Plastic sheeting/tarps
    • Toilet paper
