Woods Leans on Former Clemson Standout

Peter Woods’ college career is getting off to a very similar start to that of another Clemson standout.

After an impressive freshman season playing on the interior of the Tigers’ defensive line, Woods is making the move outside to end this season. If that sounds familiar, it’s because it is the same path former Clemson great Christian Wilkins took while he was with the Tigers.

Wilkins also moved to end for his sophomore season after an impressive first year playing defensive tackle. With Wilkins having the same experience, Woods has taken every opportunity to lean on the current Raiders’ star.

“Obviously, those guys come back and visit during the summer,” Woods said on the ACC Network Road Show . “So I kind of knew that was going to be a thing for me going into the season.”

And Woods knows he can turn to Wilkins for guidance if needed, something he has already taken advantage of.

“I leaned on him a lot for guidance,” Woods said. “Same year, same phase of college football. So it was really big, just knowing that I had somebody who has done it before at the same level and he’s doing it at the next level as well.”

Woods appeared in 12 games as a freshman, with two of those being starts. He totaled 27 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble, earning Freshman All-American honors from multiple outlets.

As he moves into a starting role outside at end, Woods fully expects the transition to be a smooth one.

“To me, it’s just football,” Woods added. “It’s something I have been doing my whole life.”
