Teammates of Cade Klubnik continue to rave about the quarterback’s progress, particularly in the leadership department.

One of the latest to chime in is senior tight end Jake Briningstool. After Monday’s practice, Briningstool noted the growth Klubnik has taken as one of the leaders on the offensive side of the ball.

“Cade has been awesome,” Briningstool said. “He is a really good dude. I think he is kind of being more comfortable within himself, being more authentic. A really relatable leader.”

That growth has matriculated onto the practice fields, with Klubnik now starting to resemble the upperclassmen that he is.

“He’s done a great job of taking command of this offense,” Briningstool added. “Taking command of guys, just even in summer workouts and in the weight room and stuff. Just leading on a consistent basis. Guys are ready to go to war for him.”

The 14th ranked Tigers are preparing for a season-opening matchup with top-ranked Georgia in the AFLAC Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on August 31 (noon/ABC). It’s one of the most anticipated season-openers of the season.

With the Bulldogs having won two of the past three national titles, the contest figures to be a good litmus test for Clemson, who is attempting to take a step back towards national prominence after having missed the College Football Playoff each of the past three seasons.

If the Tigers are to get back to national relevance, they need a big jump from Klubnik and Briningstool is confident the quarterback is on the verge of taking that next step.

“He’s just a cool guy to be around,” said Briningstool. “I think he’s just being more of himself. Just hanging out with the guys. Being more relaxed and just doing what he does really well. So we’re excited.”
