Is Vizzina Ready to Step in If Needed?

Every backup quarterback knows he is just one play away from being QB1.

That is exactly the mentality Chris Vizzina is taking into his second season with the Tigers. While the redshirt freshman did not have the spring game that he envisioned, Vizzina insists that one exhibition doesn’t take away from all the progress he’s made.

“I think this spring I did really well,” Vizzina said. “I did not have the spring game I wanted to have but I feel like that set me up to have a really good summer and a really good fall camp.”

Vizzina was 14-of-25 for just 108 yards, while also throwing two picks in the Orange and White game back in April. Since then he has used that performance as motivation to get better and he is confident that he will be ready if called upon.

“Really turned the page from that and I think that set me up very well,” Vizzina said. “Been really having a fire under myself because of that. That’s just not how I wanted it to go but I do feel like I have had a good spring and a great fall camp. I will be ready if my number is called.”

Vizzina was a 4-star prospect coming out of high school and widely considered one of the Top 10 quarterbacks in the 2023 recruiting class.

After sitting behind Klubnik for a season, Vizzina believes he is now at a place in his development that he can lead the Tigers to success if his number is called and he will prepare each and every week as if he is going to play.

“I’m confident. I am going to prepare like I am going to play every single game this year,” Vizzina added. “Nothing is going to change about that. I am excited about it and whenever my opportunity comes I will be ready.”
