Quarterback is the most important position on the football field, and with the college football season set to kick off this weekend, multiple outlets released their college QB rankings entering the 2024 campaign.

Athlon Sports is higher on Clemson’s Cade Klubnik than some others, ranking him at No. 34 among 134 FBS starters going into the season:

Getting more production and better overall play from Klubnik is crucial for Clemson to return to the top of the ACC in ’24. The Texas native was up-and-down in his first full year as the Tigers’ starter, connecting on nearly 64 percent (63.9) of his throws for 2,844 yards and 19 touchdowns. Klubnik also added 180 yards and four scores on the ground. Although the top-level numbers aren’t bad, a deeper look shows Klubnik has plenty of room to improve. His 6.3 yards per attempt rated as the lowest mark among qualified signal-callers in the ACC, while a 126.4 mark in quarterback rating placed No. 10 in the conference. Will the second year of coordinator Garrett Riley’s offense and a couple of key freshmen pickups at receiver in TJ Moore and Bryant Wesco help Klubnik reach his potential in ’24?

Pro Football Focus ranked all 70 Power Five starting quarterbacks for this season, and Klubnik checked in at No. 45 in PFF’s ranking:

Klubnik will be under the microscope in year two as the Tigers’ starter. His first full season was a bit discouraging. He made some nice throws last season, especially in the intermediate range, but he also made at least one turnover-worthy play in all but one of his starts. As a result, he earned at least a 70.0 overall grade in just one game. Clemson’s offense will struggle again if Klubnik doesn’t significantly improve.

College Football Network , meanwhile, ranks Klubnik at No. 58 among FBS starters:

At some point, we have to start to worry about the Clemson offense. Sure, Cade Klubnik threw for 19 touchdowns and limited mistakes with some luck of dropped interceptions.

But he hardly pushed the ball down the field at all in 2023. That kind of lackluster activity in the passing game has caught up to the Clemson offense, but maybe not to Klubnik’s overall ability as a passer.

Given the success of Uiagalelei outside of the Clemson offense, one may start to wonder if the Tigers’ scheme is holding back these talented signal-callers. Klubnik is the man at Clemson this year, but if things don’t go well for him from a passing standpoint again, he may be searching for a greener pasture.

And like DJU, you better believe the talent he possesses will see plenty of major program head coaches come calling.

A former five-star prospect and former Texas Gatorade Player of the Year, Klubnik enters the 2024 season having completed 351-of-554 career passes for 3,541 yards with 21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions over 23 games (14 starts). The 6-foot-2, 210-pound junior has also rushed for 321 yards and six touchdowns on 167 career carries.
