A former Clemson standout was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars ahead of Tuesday’s 53-man roster deadline.

The Jaguars released former Tiger defender Tanner Muse, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, who noted that the linebacker is a candidate to join the Jags’ practice squad.

Prior to being released this week, Muse signed with the Jags in late July.

A special teams standout and versatile defensive piece, Muse has also spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders, Seattle Seahawks, Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Chargers.

For the Chargers in 2023, Muse appeared in 10 games and posted two tackles.

A third-round pick of the Raiders in 2020, Muse has played in 33 career regular season games (one start) and has 22 total tackles (15 solo) and one pass defended in his NFL career to date.

A two-time national champion at Clemson, Muse finished his career as a Tiger credited with 237 career tackles (10.5 for loss), 15 passes broken up, 4.0 sacks, seven interceptions for 102 yards (including a 64-yard return for a touchdown), a forced fumble and a 63-yard fumble return for a touchdown over 59 career games (39 starts).
