During the “Tiger Sports Hour” radio show Monday night on WCCP 105.5 FM The Roar , Dabo Swinney fielded a question from a texter asking which freshmen Swinney is most excited to see take the field on Saturday.

The first name that Clemson’s head coach mentioned was wide receiver Bryant Wesco.

“We’ve got a few that I’m really excited about,” Swinney said. “I think Wesco is probably one that just jumps out. I mean, he’s really ready to go. … Wesco, he’s really ready to roll. So, I’m excited to see him out there.”

Wesco’s fellow true freshman wideout, T.J. Moore, drew a mention from Swinney as well.

“Hopefully we can get T.J. in there as well,” Swinney said. “He’s really close to kind of taking that next step that we need him to take.”

In his response to the question, Swinney also brought up redshirt freshman running back Jay Haynes, true freshman linebacker Sammy Brown and true freshman cornerback Ashton Hampton.

“We’ve got a couple of young freshmen that aren’t necessarily going to start for us, but I’m excited to see them, like Jay Haynes,” Swinney said. “He’s not a true freshman, but he might as well be because he was out all of last year… I’m excited to see him get out there and see what he can do as well.

“And then Sammy Brown is a guy that I think we’re all excited about. He’s a backup, a two for us, but he’s going to be all over the field on special teams and all that type of stuff. So, we’ve got a good group. I’d say Ashton Hampton is a guy in the secondary that I think has a chance to really help us this year.”

Fans will get the chance to see some true freshmen in their first game action for Clemson when the 14 th -ranked Tigers kick off the 2024 season against No. 1 Georgia on Saturday in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium (12 p.m., ABC).

“We’ve got a good group of guys that I think will be able to make a difference for us this year,” Swinney said.
